Struth! What a day! We started early to leave on our trip to the Blue Mountains and knew it was going to be an awesome day as soon as we met Smokey, our driver/guide. I guess the only way to describe him would be a mix between Steve Irwin, Indiana jones and crocodile Dundee. However he had a huge think for kangaroos. So perhaps Kangaroo Dundee.
Our first stop was at wentworth falls. Along the journey smokey told us all about the history of how australia came to be and aborigine way of life. The first "warm up walk" was a toughie! We walked down countless steps, through jungle and across waterfalls. We leant all about minerals found in the area including some that are used in foundation... This led to Laura and myself and another girl trying to paint our faces aborigine style! At a point, we got a choice to carry on or sit and wait. I chose to carry on and although coming back up the countless steep steps was stupidly tough, it was so worth it! The steals took us down to the base of the waterfall, the view was incredible!
Back up and joining with the rest of the group we headed back to the bus where after a short drive we had some lunch.
Now onto the blue mountains themselves! This walk was all downwards on steps... I managed to stumble and almost cause a domino effect.... Luckily I stopped myself with minimal damage caused!
We stopped at a view point from where we could see the "three sisters" these are 3 massive rocks at the edge of the mountain cliff past a waterfall. As the aborigine story goes these rocks were intact three sisters who got turned into stone by their father and his powers to save them from the attack of a giant monster bear (who was also magical... Ofcourse).
We continues our walk down to the base of the mountain where we caught out ride back up in the worlds steepest train! The train runs as a 64 degree angle uphill. You go backwards in the train and have a choice of how to angle your seat... We opted for "cliff hanger" the scariest!
I am now sat on the bus on the way back to Sydney city. I think the plan is to get some food for tonight and do some planning for where we want to go next. Then an early night! Two full days of hiking are catching up with me!
Oh and by the way... Speaking about dodging the rain yesterday... I spoke too soon!! We got DRENCHED walking back to the hostel and even more soaked through walking back from the lion king! Which by the way was so amazing! Perhaps not a backpacker activity or in budget but I'm glad we went... Was super!
