Come with me on a journey through time and space
DAY 7 _ ROTORUA TO WELLINGTON
On the road again we head past wairakei geo-thermal area and stop to walk round the raging waters of huka falls. we stop for photo's, now this is one place i would not like to raft down, jeez thats alot of water flowing very fast.
we carry on to lake taupo where there is a bungy site with exceptionally clear waters. neil, kevin, kate, laurel and andrea all take the plunge and do the bungy. kevin takes an unusual technique of jumping by sort of running off the platform and continuing to run in mid air. neil is the only one to take the full body plunge into the lake, when the others might as well have done as it was chucking it down right now.
we continue our travels past mt ruapehu & tongariro round the largest lake in NZ and onto Mt Ngauruhoe, most commonally recognised as being Mt doom from lord of the rings.
we arrive in wellington at our motel, the sharella. i think this place needs a little updating to bring it our of the 70's and to maybe rid itself of the slight damp smell. oh well not planning on spending too much time in the room anyway. a few of us take a stroll around the botanical gardens that are opposite the hotel, a small uphill running race followed by a large catch your breath race was required. we take the cable car down into the city where we have a good stroll around, a walk down the docks with a minor detour to have a go on the big slide for kids. quite daunting for a small child but for s nearing their 30's like lisa and i this should be easy. well it was no southdown park but it surficed. my arse barely within width of the slide and lisa getting friction burns on her arms. another adventure conquered. which was nice.
we head back to get ready before going out to dinner. the meal was good and everyone was out and drinking, i think tonight is going to be a big one. if anyone cares i had lamb shank for dinner, i think. which was nice.
we head into town for lots of beers, and go to this bar that is split into 2. 1 part having an 80's disco and the other part with a live band. naturally we head to the 80's disco????? we enjoy a few beers while dave shows off some of his R&B grooves.
mandy and i are chatting at the bar when this horrendous stick wafts past us, are we back in rotorua you may ask but alas no, the bloke next to us at the bar has what appears to be a decomposing rat stuck up his backside and some kind of fan operation system to waft the smell from huis arse straight into my face. which is nice. we decide to blame steve though as this is far more amusing. after a little while and after everyone had managed to sample the delights of the fresh NZ air we had convinced everyone it was indeed steve, dispite all his protests.
The theme tune to baywatch was our wake up song on the coach, and trust me it works, whatever depth of sleep i was in the first few notes would arrise before even the first vocal began, just in time to sing along and do some slow motion running. anyway this has a point as the dj decided to spin some techno version of the baywatch theme (well actually he probably just pressed next track on the cd walkman he was disguising as state of the art dj equipment). this got most of the s up dancing, and dave. i dived in with a short, energetic jumping on the spot session before retiring to my whiskey.
we finally make it next door to the live band who where currently on a break, i go take a leak and on my return i hear they have started to play the theme tune to austin powers, well how could i resist now, my new found friends are gathered round so i decide to show off some of my, normally reserved for special occations only, such as weddings, 70's dance groves and moves. david brent eat you heart out. well being used to embarrasing myslef infront of a crowd my dance when down as strangely entertaining and amusing, although maybe a little disturbing. the special move made an appearance too. you lucky people. LOL
well i spent most of the rest of the night chatting to kate, drinking and dancing to the live band to sucjh classics as blue eyed , many rhcp and even some oasis. kate decides instigate a face burping contest with me which she wins.
later grant decided to force a group of asians at a nearby table to get up and dance, he was convinced they wanted to dance but just needed a push.
well the rest of the night was fuzzy but lots of fun.
tomorrow we catch an early morning ferry. hangover with a ferry ride leads to fear, fear leads to anger, anger leads to the darde leads to lots of vomiting. which is nice.
