Wonderful, wonderful day in this beautiful resort area. We are anchored in a bay with lots of islands- all quite mountainous so we seem to be on a lake as it is hard to guess which is the way to the open sea.
We went ashore quite early by tender to a small fishing village then travelled by complimentary shuttle bus to the rather glamorous resort which is actually a small city. It was where the US army had their r & r during the V. War. It reminded me strongly of Cannes with its 4mile long sandy beach in a gentle curve backed by a wide palm tree lined boulevard. It has numerous delux hotels and certainly has a European feel. There is even a hotel which looks like the Casino at Monte Carlo.
We went first to the market which initially seemed just full of tourist tat but actually it was enormous and the further in you went the more wonderful local stalls there were with amazing displays of flowers, fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, baskets etc wonderful sights and sounds,a memorable experience. We then found a section with the most comprehensive selection of fabrics
I've ever seen. Carol says she has been to warehouses with less stock! She was virtually drooling at the rolls of silks, satins, beaded and sequinned fabrics, velvets etc.
We went to a hotel for a local beer which was very good and then to the beach for a paddle in the South China sea. We went for a walk along the front to a museum but found it shut so retraced our steps to the hotel where we had a lovely seafood noodle dish followed by seafood spring rolls prepared in front of us and another beer. Excellent lunch for about £4.50 each.
We got a local taxi to take us to the Cathedral which is made out of reinforced concrete. Then went on to the white Buddah and temple where
we arrived just in time for a start of a service which was interesting to watch for a while.
All in all we all loved Nha Trang and thought it an ideal place to stay for a few days after a tiring trip in Vietnam.
Entertainment in the Theatre tonight from the Bachelors which was very good and nostalgic.
