Safely on board the beautiful Oriana.Lovely cabin in our preferred location. Had a drink, afternoon tea, safety drill, pirate territories instructions and unpacked etc. Quite busy really! Oriana looks lovely after her refit tho things have moved on in cruise ship terms since we were so wowed by her almost 20 years ago. However not all the advances have been 'improvements' and The old girl still has a certain class and elegance (a bit like Carol and me! ) that is missing from some of the larger more glitzy newcomers.
LATER. Sadly a very uncomfortable dinner. Met our dinner companions-a very pleasant couple travelling with their daughter and her fiancé, but there was the most appalling vibration in the restaurant to the extent that cutlery & glasses were falling off the tables and the noise was unbelievable. I ended up with a thumping headache so didn't go to the theatre but directly to Reception where a group of 20 or more passengers were complaining of the same thing? We were told one of the engines had failed so the other was out of balance. Some people had videos of the problem which they threatened to upload to uTube if the Captain didn't contact them with a solution by 10am tomorrow! Poor guy - we have found out it is the first day of his first command - pirates, defunct engines and mutiny from the passengers is not an auspicious start! Anyway the food was good! We'll see what tomorrow brings.
