Lovely day in Singapore. Very little immigration hassle and we caught the free shuttle bus from our berth in the huge container depot on the outlying reaches in the harbour. It took, would you believe, half an hour in the bus to get to the Cruise Terminal! Ridiculous to build a brand new Terminal with all the transport links to the city in a place where even the comparatively small Oriana can't berth.
We travelled by MRT - mass rapid transit - excellent service. Quick, frequent, clean and air-conditioned. Went to the China Town area saw the Temple, New Year decorations & did a little shopping then walked to Clarkes Quai where we had 2 jugs of beer at a micro brewery. Very nice. We do like the feel of Singapore, very clean and elegant and the people are lovely. The climate doesn't suit me tho being being very hot and humid. Everywhere air-conditioned so ok inside.
Had a super proper Singapore meal at Newton Circus which was excellent washed down with fresh watermelon juice.
We took the MRT to Orchard Road and did some window shopping. Every designer shop you can think of is there and not one of them appeared to be busy or indeed selling anything at all.
We then caught the MRT back to the cruise terminal and returned hot and sweaty to the boat.
John and Carol won a meal for two and bottle of wine in a draw and invited us to join them at the Sorrento The food was lovely and although the Oriana was berthed in an unattractive commercial area, the night-time sail away with all the twinkling lights was beautiful. Unfortunately the service was no better than last time which was disappointing but as usual we had a lovely evening and we certainly didn't have the vibration of the Oriental restaurant.
