This was really our only day to properly see Bangkok. We woke up on the night train that was ok but not nearly as nice as the one in Vietnam - again we arrived early but as we had actually been to this station to get our train to Cambodia we actually knew we were in the right place. Today was not a good day. We had a late night with our new friends and a bus to catch to the capital in the morning. Unfortunately Dan became really ill in the night and started throwing up a lot. The bus arrived early for us which was also not good as I had to try and do everything while Dan tried as much as possible not to move. Today we travelled by mini bus down south to vang vieng. The landscape of Laos is very different to the other countries its very green and mountainous so although a winding 6 hour journey, it was very pretty. On the way we stopped at a little roadside shack for a toilet break. And in one of the stalls was a dead monkey in a jar which was just disgusting. Vang vieng is basically just a tourist town built for river tubing. So it felt very strange. Everywhere sold ...

Today we had booked elephant riding and For only $5 more we could also bathe them in the Mekong river; bargain! We were taken right into the forest to meet the elephants. Along the way you could see how much the landscape had changed due to logging, which was a shame. The driver left us in the middle of the forest and told us to walk up a hill. The plane was tiny! So that was really good and the airport we landed at is probably the smallest airport we've ever been to! Luckily the taxis had set fares into town which was really good. Our hostel was the most European one we had in Asia. In that there were lots of rules about everything which is kind of annoying. There were also signs up telling people not to have sex with children which was disturbing. We knew it happened in that part of the world but luck...
