It was a flying visit to Patong, Phuket's busiest district. I was only here for just over half a day with having to catch a flight to Bali at 6.45am in the morning.
The transition from Koh Phi Phi to my hostel in Patong Beach via the ferry and taxi was surprisingly painless. I jumped on the ferry at Tonsai Pier this morning still reeling from the news of my sister giving birth to twins, and the hour and a half journey over to Phuket was pleasant. I transferred from the pier to my hostel in Patong without a problem arriving around dinner time. I chilled in the dorm for a while chatting to a few of the lads who were staying there then decided to go for a wander around the town.
Phuket has similar characteristics to Bangkok but is more toned down and a generally nicer place to be and walk around in. There's no getting away from the seedy side of things in Thailand though particularly when you visit the cities and Phuket is no different.. it's there if you want it, if you don't you just have to turn a blind eye because it's constantly in your face whether you like it or not.
I spent most of the afternoon wandering around the newly built Jungceylon shopping centre. I had a bite to eat and killed a few hours looking around the shops. I came across the cinema on the third floor of the shopping centre so I thought that would be the perfect way to kill a few more hours.
I headed back to the hostel to pre-book my taxi for 4.30am in the morning then went back out at 5pm to go to the cinema. There wasn't much on that I fancied watching but as long as it was in English I wasn't too bothered.
Not being a Harry Potter fan I decided to watch 'Green Lantern'. It was a decent story, not something I'd normally watch but it was nice to chill and it killed a few more hours. The admission price to the film was so cheap.. it only cost a little over £2. Just shows how much we get ripped off on our own country!
Had another one of 'those' moments whilst sat in the cinema which seem to keep happening to me. I was sat there happy as Larry watching the trailers with my box of caramel popcorn when a short story came on screen..... everyone stood up!! Ohhhh here we go again I thought as I reluctantly got up from my comfy seat to stand with the rest of the cinema. It was a short collection of clips showing Thailand's king in action.. I have absolutely no idea what it was about but I stood there in frustration waiting for it to finish. Thankfully it didn't last too long and I got straight back into my popcorn.. why does this keep happening to me when I'm eating?!
It was about 8pm when I came out of the cinema.. I had a quick snack and went back to the hostel to get organised for the early start tomorrow. Hopefully I will get a decent sleep in before I have to get up at 4am.
Finally the last leg of my travels before I head home.. 4 sun-chilled days in Bali awaits :)
