Arrived to a warm Cairns on Thursday evening having left Mission Beach just a few hours earlier. We checked in at the Waterfront hostel and went straight to the Woolshed Bar & Grill for some food. We chilled at the hostel for the remainder of the night feeling tired from the early morning start we had for white water rafting.
With decision time on my mind I didn't have the best of nights sleep but I woke up aiming to sort it out. I spent most of the day pondering what to do but I finally worked it out.. lunch at Nando's helped me on my way ;)
I've booked a flight to Darwin on Tuesday where I will stay for half a day before leaving for Bali on Wednesday morning at 4.45am. I had previously booked a flight to Bali on the 21st July so I cancelled that one and paid extra to bring it forward. Not sure how long I intend on being in Bali at the moment but I also have Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand in my sights until I eventually leave for home.
I'd been in two minds over the past few days of whether I was doing the right thing.. a few different factors gave me major doubts but I am definitely going ahead with my plans now.
It was Friday evening and somehow we got persuaded into joining a party pub crawl that night which is totally not my sort of thing but it was good value for money. We had our tea at the Woolshed, had a few drinks at the hostel then headed out to join the pub crawl.
We had a good night and a good laugh as always.. we just kept our distance from the crowd and took advantage of the cheap drinks. We ended up in the popular Gilligans hostel/nightclub where Ministry of Sound were hosting a night.
Had a lie in on Saturday morning and didn't really do much other than relaxing by the lagoon during the afternoon. We had no intention of going out that night but it came up in conversation and we ended up having a few drinks in the hostel before heading down to the Woolshed were we met my friend Kerry who I met during my first week doing Ozintro. We had another good night which carried on into the early hours with us dancing on the tables by the end!
Tired from the previous two nights I had another lie in.. Sunday was pretty much a right off. Still managed to squeeze in another Nando's though followed by tea at the Woolshed where we ate every night with our discounted vouchers. Watched the Grand Prix in our room then it was time for more sleep.
Monday would be my last day with the boys before flying to Darwin the following morning. We all had a few errands to run which took up most of our day.. I attempted to sort my tax refund out before leaving the country but it didn't go to plan!
We had our tea then came back to the hostel room to have drinks before heading out for my last night with Kerry joining us again. I was quite tipsy by the time I decided to go back to the hostel!
Still feeling a little ropey I woke up just half an hour before the airport shuttle bus was due. I quickly gathered my belongings and said my goodbyes to the boys and Kerry.. it was quite a sad moment!
Rich, Leighton, Ricky or Eddie as I now call you.. it's been an amazing experience!! I will miss you all! x
The whole journey to Darwin was surprisingly painless but I felt flat and tired wondering if I was doing the right thing travelling on my own again.. only one way to find out!
I transferred on the airport shuttle bus to the hostel I'm staying at and left my bags in the room whilst I went for my last meal in Australia.. you guessed it, Nando's! :)
The rest of my night has been spent trying to sort some accommodation in Bali.. a last minute job which was starting to get stressful with no availability anywhere but I've just managed to sort it. I've pushed the boat out a little bit and made a reservation at a nice hotel in Ubud.. don't know too much about Ubud just yet but it's supposed to be nice.. very cultural and picturesque so I'm led to believe.
I will plan the next part of my trip when I get to Bali and have more time.
I'm led in the hostel room having had no sleep waiting to be picked up by the shuttle bus at 2.35am. My flight is at 4.45am so it looks like it's going to be another tiring day.
My time in Oz is up.. I've had an amazing time and met some really great people but I'm done here and I'm looking forward to something new.
Asia it is!! Hooroo Oz :)
