Hi Everyone
The train from Singapore to Malaka took 10 hours. When we arrived in Tampin it was like being in the middle of nowhere. So we had to get a taxi off this dodgy looking bloke who then showed us to his brother with his 1970`s Mercedes Benz. It worked out OK in the end but we were a bit nervous!
We were staying in Riverview hostel. We were greeted by the owner, Raymond who was very hospitable. He showed us a map of places to go in Malaka. It was 8:30pm so we dumped our stuff and headed down the road to a local Chinese restaurant call SIN YIN HOE.
It is good to be back in a country were mice run around in the dining area and the waiter clears up with a cigarette in his mouth. Food was good though luckily. We had a few beers then off to bed.
We woke up late again!!
We headed to the post office where we sent some more stuff home to make our bags lighter.
And then it started raining so we went for lunch at Farmosa which is famous for chicken rice balls, as recommended by Philippa in Cairns.
We did a bit of antique window shopping and found some tacky tourist giftshops in Jonker Street. We explored two temples, one being the oldest temple in Malaysia which is still in use.
Then we went back to our hostel and chilled out on the balcony over looking the river, very pretty.
That night we went to Capitol Satay. This is the best restaurant we have been to on our travels. A pan of boiling satay sauce sits in the centre of the table and you pick a sample of raw ingredients before throwing them in the pot. You wait until they are cooked and eat immediately. There was a big queue outside and it was jam packed. Great food, if you like satay sause that is...??
We went on a river cruise the following day and pottered around in the town.
We will blog again soon,
Linds and Graham
