Graham & Jane
Made it to our hotel early this afternoon following a very uneventful trip, always good when the plans work out, after clearing immigration and picking up the bags we caught the Heathrow Express train to Paddington and then a short taxi trip to the hotel.
The caps have followed us and made an appearance in the Doha lounge. We will see where they turn up next.
We are staying right in the middle of Mayfair, just like being on a real life Monopoly board.
We had a quick wash and brush up it was straight into a short sightseeing stroll. We walked out onto Piccadilly and into Green park where we strolled down the Princess Diana memorial avenue to the Victoria Monument in front of Buckingham Palace. Jane suggested we call on Lizzie for tea, given we had traveled so far she would be sure to welcome us. However there was no flag flying it would appear she is also on her holidays.
We walked down the Mall towards Trafalgar square past St James Palace and Clarence House, thinking if we couldn't see Lizzie maybe Charlie would be open to providing a friendly cuppa, however it must be a family holiday as he was also away. So we returned to the hotel via Regent Street, Burlington Arcade and New Bond St, where Jane was very taken with all the jewellery shops even making a few suggestions for Christmas.
We decided to look for a local pub for Dinner as there are one or two around here, we walked across the road from the hotel straight into Shepherd Market, which according to Wikipedia "is a small square in the Mayfair area of central London, developed in 1735-46 by Edward Shepherd on the open ground then used for the annual May fair from which Mayfair gets
its name. It is located between Piccadilly and Curzon Street and has a village-like atmosphere." There is more to the entry but for the sake of younger readers will leave this for another time.
Luckily for us there was a spare table in the Kings Arms for dinner.
