Graham & Jane
yesterday was the last day of the cruise, and we spent it in Arles, which is full of Roman ruins, 2nd only to Rome according to the guide. Although we think after 2 weeks of ruins, churches, and art, we are a bit jaded. Whilst the guide was very good we struggled to keep concentration and decided to wander off on our own as we were in desperate need of a coffee.
Arles is also famous as the home of Vincent Van Gogh in his later years and was here he lived in the yellow house and painted the yellow cafe, and where he also cut off part of his ear.
This is somewhere you could spend 3 or 4 days to really make the most of the ruins and all the links to Vincent.
In the evening we went for a sail down the Rhone into the Camargue but all we could see was countryside as expected given it is a large nature park and most of the wildlife is in the centre of the park.
This morning we were on the coach at 8:15 and off to Cannes for the last night of the cruise part of the trip, we have arrived at the Carlton Intercontinental which is absolutely magnificent. Sure enough the caps were here to welcome us.
Given it is 25 degrees out on the beach we have had a very nice walk along the promenade, where according to our guide as we came in on the coach a number of penguins can be seen when the weather is good like today. Sure enough on the public beaches there they were.
Then it was back to the hotel for a cup of tea, don't think we will be drinking tea in the bar anymore as it was 11 Euros a cup.
