Hey - guess what! We found our guesthouse in Hiroshima first go! Without any outside help (apart from step-by-step directions, a map . . . and a compass)! We're getting good at this!
We lost several hours on our first day in the Peace Memorial Museum - we generally avoid museum's, but felt this one warranted a visit. It was very interesting . . . and emotional . . . and we had to go and find gin afterwards.
The weather continued to bless us here, so we took the tram and the ferry (Free - god bless those JR Passes!) to Miyajima Island (apparently the red O-Torii in the sea is Japan's 3rd most popular view . . . we weren't terribly impressed by that . . . not 3rd most popular view in Japan impressed anyway!). We shunned the rather busy temple in front of it and dodging the tame deer, who wanted to eat our map, we headed for the cablecar and Mt Misen. Compared to previous mountains we've been up, it wasn't much at a paltry 940m! But the views from the top were beautiful and reminded us of the Whitsunday's.
It was good to be by the sea for the first time this trip and it showed us that Japan really does have it all!
