Graeme round the world
Day 84 - Fri 16th June - Up at 6.30am, but told the swimming pool not open until 9am and then tried to upload some pics to the website but they only have dial up in the hotel, so not the best start, but watched the England goals on TV, so that put a smile on my face. Jaipor is called the pink city as all the buildings are painted a dark shade of pink. It dates back to when Edwars 7th visted the city and they have made it law that they are painted pink every 5 years. Rode on an elephant up to Amber fort, which was brilliant and watched the elephants washing in the lake. The fort and palaces inside are beautiful as well as the green and lush gardens. Drove past the Hawa Mahal also known as the Palace of the Wind, which is an amazing building. Visited the City Palace museum, with it's swords, 350 year old carpets and miniture manuscipt books and saw the Chandra Mahal, which is the new residence of the Rajasthn Royal family since they moved out of Amber Fort. It was amazing to see the variety and beauty of the jewelry encrusted swords, some of which also had small pistols attached and it was interesting to find out that all the 12 wives the King had were all trained in self defence and weaponry, so you wouldn't want to upset them ;o) had another curry for lunch, a nap, a dip in the pool and now going for a ride in a Tooktook, which is a motorised motorbike, around Jaipor. I really like this city as it is busy but much more laid back that Delhi, also they have so many beautiful buildings.I am loving it here as people are so friendly and also everything is such good value.... a good meal for two is around 6 pounds. Not sure about any internet link in Agra, where we are off to tomorrow morning, so will catch up as soon as I can xx
