Going Tribal
I departed Kimbe and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea with no troubles, and made my transit over to Manila for my final stay of this adventure, on my way home. It was great to have the opportunity to meet up with some diving friends I met on my liveaboard trip in March of this year.
On that dive trip, Alasdair, Dave, & Tim reluctantly welcomed me into their socials on the front of this ship each night, along with my cheap ass bottle of bourbon, for some bantering. Originally from UK, they are each permanently based in Manila now. So, we had some good times during that week out at sea, along with their families, and it was a pleasure to have a reunion again here in Manila. Now, of course, some of our discussions back in March evolved into our quirky differences between the UK and Americans, it also evolved into the classic political controversies and in particular, their regard for Mr. Trump ! So, knowing their sentiment for Trump to be more so of the "blundering idiot" category, I felt the perfect gift to arrive with would be custom Trump t-shirts for each of them. The shirts were a hit, and I think they're going to revere these gifts of friendship for many years. And, it isn't just sentimental value, as Dave pointed out, there'll be the practical value as well for he now has something to use for cleaning up the dog poo. Thank you guys, for a great reunion.
And I look back at the adventure of the last 3 weeks, there were those fun moments of instigating international political controversies, as I walked in wearing my Trump shirt. Lots of fun, poking those buttons and getting a rise out of their emotions. Hey, it's all in good fun, and everyone has their own point of views. So, between my campaigning in Uepi, Solomon Islands with my Aussie, Swiss, US & British friends, to going tribal for Trump in Papua New Guinea, it was a lot of fun. Even the fish life underwater seemed to have some emotions about Trump as I wore the shirt while diving, perhaps the lobster altercation was a reflection of its views !
All kidding aside, it was a wild adventure, and a successful one. Thank you for following along with me during this trip, and it's now time to go home. I miss my wife and family, and look forward to being back at home. This is the conclusion of my Going Tribal series, and tomorrow I fly home via Hong Kong. (fortunately should barely miss the Typhoon landing in Taiwan right now).
Take care, and see you soon.
