From Iceland In Scotland I flew to Edinburgh, Scotland, which was quite a contrast. From one of the newest land forms with one of the most recent human habitations (first people in Iceland were in the 900s) where the "old" buildings have corrogated metal siding, to a place where you can walk on streets that were build by the Romans 2000 years ago. I was amazed by the stag and hen parties - huge drunken celebrations with the future bride or groom that often involved some type of common costume, either everyone wearing the same shirt, or a sash, or cross-dressing, or in some cases an elaborate costume. Nothing like a group of people wearing full head masks of chickens walking down the street in a group.
I also went on a 3 day tour to the Isle of Skye, see the photo of the foggy cliffs at Neist Point. Skye is very sparsely populated, lots of one-lane roads and free roaming sheep (but this time there were no near collisions). Scotland if full of heather and peat moss, steep green hills, small streams and waterfalls.
In Glasgow we met up with friends of Daryl's what work at the University of Glasgow. Other than the amount of beer they could drink (we went to two bars that were former churches) and still make it to work the next day, I found the university itself very interesting - huge old gorgeous buildings.
