Left Mataranka on 2nd July and drove to Roper Bar where Glenn crossed the river on the Roper Bar, nothing else there, then we drove rough road and camped at Towns River, Glenn fished off bank and luckily wasn't eaten by any crocs. Beautiful river and great camping spot on rocky ledge of river. Next day we called in at Butterfly Springs which is beautiful swimming hole and then into Southern Lost City where Dale drove thru very red muddy deep river crossing with his window down and got thoroughly soaked, still unable to get red out of his clothes. Drove worst 30km into Lorella Springs and camped for night. They had most interesting hot water system for showers consisting of 40 gallon drum with fire underneath and with supposedly hot water flowing thru car radiator immersed in drum. Not much good if fire goes out during the night, no hot water for Wendy. Fuel was $3.00 per litre, ice was $10.00 a block. Drove to Cape Crawford and then to Borroloola and stayed at King Ash Bay a wonderful fishing camp on the gulf huge boats and houseboats for hire, May be next time! Drove back to Borroloola for supplies worst egg and bacon sandwich ever made straight into the bin.
Hit the road again to Hellsgate going thru heaps of river crossings, had our first ever flat tyre on the Hilux. Camped at Hells gate roadhouse and drove into Lawn Hill National Park and stayed 2 nights at the gorgeous Adels Grove park with magnificient swimming holes and beautifully shaded camping areas. Canoed up the LawnHill Gorge and spent the rest of the time relaxing.
