31/08/11 -Shihanuok Ville
Today we travelled for the whole morning leaving just after 7am, on a public bus (which was surprisingly nice except we picked the chairs with a board in front so couldn't stretch our legs!) and the sealing was leaking as it was raining. We then arrived at Shihanuok Ville, which is still Cambodia and is next to the seaside, and felt very at home as it was raining, similar to the British sea side. We had lunch in the hotel and then headed out for a wander to the beach.
The second we reached the seafront a wild pack of children were on us trying to sell us rubbish little bracelets they had made. The pack followed us the whole length of the beach for around a 15-minute walk, asking our names, age etc. I first got talking to a female savage about the age of 13 who asked me to come back to her if I wanted to buy any rubbish, I explained that I didn't want to buy any rubbish and still wouldn't later on but agreed that if I suddenly felt an urge to buy rubbish I would come back to her. After that every kid that came up to me to talk she would suddenly appear and growl "you promised that you would buy rubbish from me and no one else, remember". This went on for the whole walk, Sam (one of the other guys on the tour) tried to get rid of them by offering a dollar to the first person who could swim to Oz and back, but surprisingly the pack wasn't as stupid as they looked. Finally we gave in and headed back to the hotel to swim in the pool.
Later that evening we went for a lovely group meal on the sea front, actually sitting on the sand. The restaurant did all kinds of bbq-ed food for cheap. Graeme had a fish BBQ meal and I had a vegetable skewer meal (see mum I'm being healthy!) mmmmmm. Then most people decided to turn their one cocktail/beer into 2, then 3 etc. We ended up having quite a few drinks and then headed to a bar for some more. Graeme and Martin had a massive keg thing of beer! And I, probably just as bad played a drinking game with the girls involving Cambodian Jagermeisters! Our tour leader Pooky had a really funny argument with an Irish guy. We then stumbled out of the bar and headed to a club recommended to us, which was on the sea front. Was very good fun (but the toilets were gross see pic…) we danced, drinked and poledanced hehe. Was a nice night for all of us on the tour to let our hair down, until the very end some weird Cambodian woman tried to start a fight with one of the girls in the group. We decided to make a quick gettaway!
