Day 11: We had a nice sleep in today, which turned out to be a bit of a shame, because it meant we couldn't really do much. Part of the fault has to be put on the tourist information centres though, of which there was two, both on siesta from noon til 2pm. So by the time we had sorted out what walking trails there were and where they were it was kinda too late to actually do most of them. The hike we ended up choosing was said to be about 3 hours long. Gabrielle started the walk with me and Ness but due to soreness in her legs decided to sit it out and go back to the car to read. Despite how long the walk was said to take it only took us about one hour. It's possible we got a bit lost and took the wrong path which ended up being a shortcut though. When we got to the end we hung out at a bit of a lookout point for a while and then decided we would walk it back since we had done it so quickly. On the walk back we definitely somehow managed to take a detour which was a massive shortcut as it only took us about half the time it took us going the other way. All in all it was a nice walk and a nice warm up though to prepare us for a longer walk the next day.
Day 12: We got up earlier today with an actual proper plan of where to go and what to do. The walk we were doing today was rated at 4-5 hours. We weren't really sure just how accurate that was after yesterday, but we expected a tougher more rewarding hike.Turned out it was pretty much smack on 4 hours with the first 2 hours pretty much being uphill. Amazing view up the top though, and a great walk overall. Apart from the absolute stunning view from the top (which was unfortunately marred a bit by some idiots making a bonfire and covering the place in smoke) the most interesting part of the walk probably came in the form of a tiny village we found. I'm not even sure village is the write word to use, it was like 5 buildings in the middle of nowhere. There were two main things which made this place particularly interesting. One was that it was clearly abandoned, quite some time ago. The houses were old and falling apart. But there was a powerbox of sorts powered by a solar panel which looked almost brand new. Not sure what it was for, but it seemed unlikely to be for the houses, though that's what it looked like. The second interesting thing was that one house in particular was practically a mansion, while the rest were no more than stone shacks even in their prime. It had a kinda lookout point on the top of its roof and everything. The place was well creepy.
We had arranged a late checkout with the place we were staying at to allow us to have a shower before we left that evening for Porto. I can't remember now if this was on this day, or perhaps the previous. But I remember that our strawberries were really starting to get beyond the point where they were entirely edible. So we were sitting outside on one of the stone benches and tables having a bite to eat (as we did on several occasions, we kinda made it our spot), admiring the fantastic view we had from there. Then we started to just throw the strawberries. Ditching them at the road to watch them explode, seeing if we could slam them against the stone wall on the other side of the road, stuff like that. The area looked like a strawberry massacre by the end. That was good fun.
