Well it's fair to say that we learned absolutely nothing from our Bangkok hangovers as the next week with the lads & the girls proved to be 1 of our craziest weeks yet joyous weeks of the travels thus far. As fate or good planning would have it, we all turned up on the same day from various locations. For those not in the know, the area of Chaweng, Koh Samui is lively, very very lively. It's not the most Thai place you will ever visit but sometimes who cares when there's a group of 10 of you in bars that serve £3 buckets. With us due to meet the lads before the girls would arrive late evening, it was only ever going to end 1 way..........I walked home with no flip flops! After introducing the lads to the game of spoof we would inevitably end up in the huge bar/nightclub of 'The Green Mango' which then chewed us up yet again, and spat us out stumbling home. With me trying to drunkenly buy some flip flops on the way home (I'd even tried to get in kids Mickey Mouse ones), Stace simply marched me onwards stating 'well you shouldn't have thrown them at Bobby to get his attention' (Bobby had duly whizzed them right back past my head into the large crowd as I danced on a balcony).
The next night produced one of the more memorable nights out of the week and by memorable I mean that me n Stace could actually remember it as we simply couldn't drink as much as the night before. We'd met the girls at their 5 star hotel complete with hot tub on balcony which took me about 30 seconds to get in with beer in hand! And whereas me & Walshy couldn't handle it as much, the youngsters of the group (all 8 of them) could drink enough and ended up in the sea at the 'Ark Bar Beach Party'. With fire shows, buckets and sheesha leading the way, the night turned into intoxicated debauchery with us 2 doing well to see out 2am!
Throw in some beach time, razzin around the island on a moped, some serious football watching and a game of 'football golf' (an ingenious concept where they have 18 holes of varying difficulty of booting a ball around into football sized holes, complete with obstacles and bunkers) and our week simply flew by. I'd finished 3rd out of the 4 of us playing football golf, which went without saying that I wasn't pleased and made me realise what Beckham had realised a season ago - maybe it's time my boots were hung up!
In the midst of all the madness and before our last night out, we were able to finalise the plans for the wedding and got to show 'little Jo' where we would be getting wed, whilst taking her to a sweet waterfall and class little rasta bar that feels much more Thai being made of bamboo in the middle of large rocks on the beach. Stace also finally did some work by cutting mine and 3 of the lads hair at their 4 star hotel (we never did show them all our half star guesthouse). This also led me to 1 conclusion that whilst I have to badger Stace for a week for a haircut, it only takes 1 text from cousin Callam to get all their hair cut!!
Our last night out with everyone proved to be one of our best and funniest of the trip so far. With the downing of buckets and cocktails (I lost bloody twice at the game of spoof that I'd introduced) we were well on our way to raving madness. Walshy even went flying bruising both elbows and her knee, but somehow managed to not spill her drink which we all thought was highly impressive. To say all of us even visited a strip club showed just how much fun the night was....well maybe more for the lads but then even Stace appreciated the technical prowess of the Russian dancers!
And just like that & as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. The week had been nothing short of hilarious, with nobody wanting to go home or move on. To say we nearly followed the lads to Phuket shows just how much of a good crack we had had, yet we had been to Phuket a few times before and therefore chose to visit the island of Koh Tao, a decision our livers would thank us for.
Having had 4 nights of beach bliss with our room being 5 metres from the restaurant and another 5 metres to the beach, we leave the beautiful Koh Tao feeling refreshed & ready to see what the next instalment of Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and then Macau & Hong Kong have to offer.
It's also not long now until our friends and family are launched into both the madness of Bangkok and Koh Samui......we can't wait!
