So 6 nights were had in the extremely rustic beach town of Mancora, 4 were spent in the town and 2 spent further south on a pretty much deserted beach in our bamboo hut! It turned into a very chilled out affair watching some quite impressive wildlife watching of huge sea diving birds (still no idea what they were). We also got to watch the England v Peru friendly with some locals and with me having a tenner on Sturridge to score 1st which lead to a little celebratory jig by yours truly!
I've also mentioned before that you meet some characters whilst travelling and having met a 53 year old hippyish American called Sheila, she explained to us that she was currently working at an Ecuadorian school doing charity work for the extremely poor children. Having explained in detail how she had been going about the very worthwhile cause for the last 2 years and had given up her old life in the States, even cutting ties with her mother, it was actually quite interesting learning how she had been fundraising around South America. It was once again reminding me of how fortunate we are when hearing about the conditions that these children had to endure. She was now having a 2 week break in Mancora to recuperate but then came out with the dreaded words, "you see I'm on a spiritual journey" and that was that, she had completely and utterly lost me!
So back to Lima it was with some Western comforts of good old Starbucks and TGI Fridays (the waiter was shaking my hand after our 4th time there). It also meant Casinos baby as the area of Miraflores is full of them, and with Stacey having found her favourite Tutankamun slot machine, she was buzzin! It was also in 'Atlantic City' that we endured our first ever earthquake tremor as the ground started shaking and swaying for a few seconds. Panic broke out with people rushing to the doors and with me n Stacey looking at each other, we did what any other cool Brits would have done, turned around and carried on trying to strike it lucky with that damn Egyptian!
Our time in Peru had then come to and end as we boarded our flight to Brazil. First up was the area of the huge Iguazu Falls which were without doubt a stunning site to behold. Although it looked like the Brits had once again brought the weather with them as the falls endured record floods to date meaning you couldn't stand on some of the usual look out spots because they weren't actually there anymore!! We also visited the nearby bird park which turned out to be surprisingly decent shaking beaks with some seriously weird and colourful birds (Stacey's favourites being the flamingos who ran around as though they were on hot coals with long spindly legs, looking every bit hilarious). Having also met a few fellow World Cup Brits we began to get in the party mood with towers of Brazilian lager and now we are on board the flight to Rio De Janeiro....it's time to let the real party begin, come on the 3 lions!!!!!!!!!
I saw my mate the other day, he said to me he sin a white Pele, so I asked, who is he, he goes by the name of Wayne Rooney!!!!!
