From my last entry we have visited a few more beaches of the Costa Brava.
Tossa De Mar
Tossa is an old fishing village on the rugged coast line of Eastern Spain and, of course, if has the remnants of an old castle and walled city dating back to the 12th centrury. The remaining turrets sit high on the cliff edge overlooking the main beach. Much of the town is still housed within the old town walls. Tossa is a lot smaller and quieter than our previous town of Lloret de Mar, I call it the 'Noosa' of the Costa Brava as it is more expensive and more posh than Lloret which is busy and cheap like Surfers Paradise. We spent a lovely 10 days here in a wonderful 4 bedroom apartement with a pool. It's location was superb, in amongst all of the shops and restaurants and only a skip away from the beach. The water was still a little cold but crystal clear. We enjoyed numerous days relaxing by the beach and pool. We also took a glass bottom boat trip up the coast a little further to some caves and another lovely beach, the girls really enjoyed seeing the fish and sealife through the glass bottom.
Sitges
We had been looking forward to coming to Sitges for so long. Sitges is where we met up with Justin, Tammy and Siti. We were all very excited to see them all and we had a fantastic week which unfortunatley went by way too quickly. We also met up with Tammy's family and extended family who live in the area. Sandie, Alan, Ben and Manu were very welcoming and hospitable. It was such a pleasure to meet them and spend so much time with them. We were very lucky to attend Sophia's 1st birthday party - of course the kids loved it. With Siti around Trent and I were now able to enjoy some kid free time - yay. We had a lovely night out with Tammy and Justin. On another occasion Tammy's brother Ben, who is a chef, cooked us an amazing spanish meal - the best we have had so far - along with some Sangrias!!
Sitges lies 30mins south of Barcelona and is renowned as being the gay capital of Eurpope. The sea temperature was much warmer here and very enjoyable and finally sandy beaches! One eveing we visited a small town nearby called St Pere De Ribe. Here we enjoyed an authentic spanish meal at a local restaurant followed by dancing in the local square. This is what I had imagined Spain to be like. At 10pm the square came alive - live music, a stage, people of all ages dancing, kids running around eating ice cream and kicking footballs while the adults had a few cervesas. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. We didn't get home till 1pm and the kids stayed awake the whole time!
Calafell
Calafell, meaning little castle, of course had remnants of a medieval castle. A little further south of Sitges it has beautifal long stretches of beaches with warm temperatures. We had an amazing apartment right on the beach and with a swimming pool. We had a great relaxing week here.
We are all having a fabulous time, the girls are missing home though.
