We have returned from our 10 day trek to Annapurna Base Camp. What a fantastic trek. We started in Pokhara, Nepal, and trekked through local villages, thick rainforest, alongside the white water rapids of the fresh Himalayan rivers and all during rain, hail and shine (literally). After 6 days we reached 4130 mts above sea level at Annapurna base camp. We stayed here overnight and took in the wonderful views of the Himalayan mountains. We played volleyball with our guide and porter and a bunch of other local workers until the weather came in. Every afternoon there is garaunteed rain and, being so high up, it was snow. We waited out the snow in our dinning hall playing cards with our new British friends Merryl and Phil. Once the weather cleared up we had a magnificant view of the moon above the snow capped mountains. It was pretty cold that night but we managed and then the next day headed down the mountain for some warmer weather. We celebrated Trent's birthday at Jinhu where we enjoyed a dip in the natural hot springs befor a night of drinking and dancing with our guide Ram and porter Prakass. All in all we had a marvellous time but we were glad to get back to warmer weather, eating meat and hot showers. Our legs certainly felt the strain of the 70 odd km;s we trekked and the thousands of stairs and hills we ascended and then on the way back descended so a relaxing massage was in order when we got back to Pokhara.
Tomorrow we are off white water rafting for 2 days with a night of campind and then we are off to Chitwan NP to do some elephant riding, bird watching and rhino spotting. After that we are heading off to India and Lana will be heading back home.
I am trying to upload photos but the process is unbearably slow so you might be waiting until we get betting internet connection.
Cheers -
Giselle and Trent.
