Brisbane
Despite not wanting to leave Surfers and hearing lots of negative things about Brisbane we were again pleasantly surprised! The city was very similar to Adelaide which we loved, but had so many different elements to it.
We spent the first few days staying with an Aussie guy called Ben, enjoyed a Chinese buffet and spent a few days chilling after spending the mornings looking for work, which again seemed non-existent! On the Saturday we spent the day at a huge lagoon in the middle of the city near the river. It was so bazaar! There were huge high-rise buildings and then in the middle water park with playgrounds for children and a homemade beach surrounded by palm trees. That night me and Sarah cooked an amazing Lasagne and we all went out to see Marley and Me-. I have never seen anyone cry at a film so much as Sarah! It was coming from her nose and everything, it was so funny to watch, but I could see where she was coming from it was such a sad film! We watched it in an old theatre, it was so old-school- there were curtains and everything it was a lovely place.
The next day we moved to Base in the middle of the city which was an old Salvation Army building. The hostel actually felt like we were in an old haunted boarding school. The lift was manual and looked like it would collapse any second and the showers looked like something out of a horror movie. I was so sure I was going to hear the music from the shining or something in those bathrooms! It was a strange place but we had out own room air-con which is absolute heaven- it's so hot over here!
Apart from hunting for jobs and going for interviews which led us nowhere, we spent a day rollerblading! It was so much fun! There was an adventure store on the edge of the river so we embraced the knee pads, the elbow pads, wrist guards, and blades with socks pulled up and not forgetting the stylish helmets and set off along the river! I think it took a whole 3 minutes until Chloe fell over in the splits position; I think she was in more pain than she let on, but it was so funny!
We cruised around for about an hour before realizing that we weren't kids anymore and did not look at all cool, and gave up! It was such a fun day though; I don't think I have rollerbladed since I was about 12 years old!
That evening we went to an Irish bar and watched some live music before heading back to the boarding school and collapsing! After still not finding any jobs we decided to leave Brisbane and start trying our luck further up the coast.
Overall Brisbane was a really cool place, not only for shopping but for live music, activities like water sports etc, and was a really pretty city with huge gardens, a good night life and plenty of lovely cafes and restaurants. I was definitely pleased I stopped off to see the city for myself.
