Right then, we have finally arrived in the very hyped country of Thailand - so far it has pretty much lived up to that hype. It seems a lot more friendly than Malaysia and it really is cheap - at least thats what we thought!
We have a little problem at the moment. We are now in Krabi a town which is basically the link between Ko Phi Phi and Ko Lanta, the 2 best beaches on the west coast (Ko Phi Phi is the one where they filmed 'The Beach') which we are well keen to get down to. As if by magic, all of our best laid plans are shattered by another bloody New Year!! As if the Balinese one wasnt enough!! This 3 day festival seems to be pretty cool at first glance, it is pretty much celebrated by 3 days of mass water fights (they advise you to put and valuables in a sealed plastic bag) all over the place. We thought that it would be good to spend it on Phi Phi. Then comes the bomb shell - festivals = more people = all of the hotels upping their prices by about 3 fold!! So now if we want to go to the island a) we are going to struggle to find a place and b) we are going to pay ridiculously inflated prices for a bed and for the ferry crossing!
We are now furiously trying to work a way around it, as we had planned to spend the next 4/5 days in this area. There is a nice beach resort about 45mins boat ride from Krabi, but again the prices seem to be so high! So we are really stcuk at the moment!
In Krabi, the prices havent shot up yet so we managed to land a really plush hotel, brand new for only 2.50 a night each! AND the best thing is that we are now out of muslim Malaysia and into Buddhist Thailand, this transpires to cheap alcohol!!! Cans of 6.4 Chang beer for 30p!!!! Happy days, added to the fact that the cuisine here is absolutely stunning!!! Even Sar can enjoy all of the local curries and rice dishes!!!
So we have a stressful afternoon ahead of us, trying to work out what to do! We will keep you posted with our plans, and hopefully we will be kicking back on a gorgeous beach in a day or 2!!
