Now thats better! We have both just woken up from our standard daily naps, and are full of renewed vigour for the evening ahead!! This hot weather and beach bummin is tiring you know, so we have started napping in the afternoon every afternoon (partly to pass the time between beach and food/beer). This really is the life!!
We are actually back in Krabi now, getting ready to cross to the other side of the peninsular to the East coast islands tomorrow morning after 4 days on Koh Lanta and 2 days on Koh Phi Phi. We really enjoyed our time out on the isles, but loved Koh Lanta so much more, Phi Phi turned out to be some sort of Asian Magaluf. It was not very big, with just one resort crammed full of bars, and the tourists to fill them - bit of an 18-30 feel. Despite this the island itself was really pretty as they all seem to be down this way! We didnt actually get up to much, we opted out of the expensive tour around the lesser island to see 'the beach' film location, instead going on a 30 min hike to reach long beach - the best beach on the island ... apparently. The only problem they have out here is thoughtless development and heaps of rubbish which spoil the stunning scenery out here. When we clambered down the track onto the beach, our first sight was piles of rubish bags (see pics) and millions of people all over the beach. Needless to stay we didnt stay for too long but caught a few rays, got a few pics and headed slowly back via the little coves that were stunning.
It was a nice day but i didnt impress Sarah too much. In my usual childish antics i found a coconut, and after my success the night before in getting to the actual nut, i thought this big tough one would be no problem!! How wrong was I? It started off all well and good, with me trying to batter it on some concrete steps, and Sarah laughing away whilst trying to capture it all on film! Then i went for one final smash. I launched the coconut at extreme pace, calling on all of my reserves of strength ... it left my able grasp and hut\rtled towards the step when ..... erm, some wind caught it and it ricocheted off into Sarahs direction. I tried to warn her, but she was looking through the camera, trying to get the best angle, luckily for her (i think it was pure luck) she managed to squirm to the side (narrowly avoiding the bank to her left flank) and the coconut only caught the bottom of her shin with less than full impact. Somehow, it didnt even leave a mark, and i was let off the hook!
Oh yeah, nearly forgot - we also went elephant trekking. Like you do! Sar had spotted this a while ago and was really keen to have a go, so we paid our money and were picked up in the customary pickup truck and whisked away to the 'jungle for our 1-2 hr trek - obviously it only lasted about 50 mins and was s**t!
We arrived at the place and within 2 mins, this tiny haggard old elephant was ushered next to the stand by being hit on the head with a stick, and we were motioned onto it by some non english speaking Thais! No time to see the elephant, ask what its name was, how old it was etc! Nope, we just started off into some forest along a trail, the elephant knew on its own! It had obviously been doing it for years as the guide just walked behind singing to himself and throwing rocks at passing lizards. After 50 mins we were back at the camp with stiff backs and sore bums, immediately asked to get off, the next 2 people jumped on and that was that!! Pretty poor, but oh well
All for now
