Well hello there friends and family! We thought it was about time we started updating the blog - we are actually in Laos at the moment but will start with a backdated entry about Thailand......
Where to begin?? The flight was great cos we got to hang out in the lounge and our tickets got upgraded to business class - frickin amazing, good ole Ravi and her Emirates air miles!
We decided to start our journey by staying in a nice hotel, knowing the kinds of places we were gonna end up staying in - we had a nice little freshen up ready to hit the streets of Bangkok. Ravi decides we should take the stairs down as the lift was taking ages- this was an action she later came to regret.. As we reached the last flight, she went flying and fell down about 4 (marble!) stairs, whilst wearing a short skirt with 4 guys sat right there (on a side note, none of them helped, idiots). I ran to her aid and plonked her on a chair before PISSING myself laughing. I'm normally the Gill that's renowned for EPIC falls but that one took the biscuit. She now has a bruised coccyx, and 2 large bruises on her legs, poor thing. In fairness to her, she got up, pulled down her skirt, and carried on into the night.
We met some Indian waiters that wanted to add us to Facebook- we declined, but Bobby from Calcutta is a big cheese in Delhi and promised us free entry to the main club there - can't wait (haha).
Even thought it was the poshest place we've stayed in so far, it's the only one where a gecko (small lizard) was chilling out on our ceiling. We got someone to come with a ladder and remove it- he only went and bloody missed it, which led to me screaming loudly and jumping onto the bed and ravi jumping on the chair. They managed to catch it, running around on the floor, it went straight for Ravi's backpack haha.
The next night we hit Khao San road - backpacker drinking central for those of you who don't know, knowing full well we had a 12 hour train to catch to Chiang Mai early the next morning....
Much debauchery ensued... We were meant to go for a couple of drinks, then I discovered buckets of cocktails. I should never be allowed to discover that type of thing. I kept coming back from the bar with a bucket, much to ravi's dismay (she still polished them off with me though!!). After that we decided to hit a club and drink more buckets- we were the last men standing and had to be led out of the place when it closed. Now most people would decide to go home at this point, we decided to go to an illegal drinking den and not bother going to sleep that night, drink and smoke shisha till 6 in the morning. Met some cool people including Jeremy the canadian who gave us great travel tips, and who I ripped for saying 'ABOOT' (except he doesn't say aboot, dammit.)
It was a mad dash for the train. Heaven knows why we thought stopping at Burger King made sense when we still had to get back, pack our stuff, and get to the train station in rush hour traffic, but I managed to get a cardboard crown out of it, which I proudly wore in the taxi home, claiming I was the queen of Thailand (Ravi told me to shut up in case I offended the driver). We put my iPhone on and sang old classics such as Amplifier by Imran Khan which some of you may know. The taxi driver loved the tunes and was bopping along, so much so we drove straight past our hotel. We legged it into the hotel and packed within 10 mins in our drunken stupor - result!!!
The train journey was horrible. 12 hours of railroad hangover. Ravi managed to leave one of the bags and we thought it was gone forever. But when we went back to the station the next day, they had it!!! She proclaimed her love to the station master, he didn't know what to do with himself.
We then got an 8 hour bus to the Thailand/Laos border. Beautiful scenery but such a long, arduous journey. Our highlight was the monk who got on, gurning away, pulling the kinds of faces I do (with Hannah ;-) )
We stayed in a guesthouse that cost about a fiver each with the most amazing view I've ever woken up to - of the Mekong River. One of the windows didn't close properly, so Ravi decided to sleep with an iron next to her as a lethal weapon against intruders, so she could iron them to death?! Which, given that we had a travel iron, might have taken a few days!
We made our way to the border in the morning and crossed over into Laos on a 'ferry'. Imagine a ferry in your minds. It wasn't like that, it was a rickety old boat that we thought might capsize!
We made it to Laos and are having such a great time, finally relaxing after travelling every single day - met some hilarious Aussies but that can wait for our next posting on our time in Laos...
Pics will follow soon, we have some corkers!

kaylen Wow- sounds like a great start to the trip (minus the spectacular fall). I think the iron as a defense system might be flawed, but it would give you (as the non-iron-weilder) a chance to run for help or something! :)
