Today we drove a long way up into the Dolomite Mtns through 128 switchbacks until we reached a WW1 museum where we saw a large collection of artifacts that one man and his family had collected over the years from the mountain pass. Then we carried on to a mountain lake where we had strudel and coffee in the sun then upward to the top of a mountain pass where we took a cable car to a mtn peak that was 9000 feet up. There was a fantastic view up there all the way to the Swiss Alps. We've noticed there are many more jets in the sky here than back home and can often see five at a time!
We had lunch at the peak then drove back to Cortina and wandered through the town then had an excellent dinner in the beautiful hotel with 6 of our new friends from Australia and Calgary. Joan from Calgary discovered today that she is a first cousin of one of the other ladies on our tour but hasn't seen her since she was four years old. The other lady lives in Vancouver. It's a very small world sometimes!
Off to Venice in the morning!!
