Gibbs Locates
We arrive in Amsterdam Central around 6pm....we're greeted by noise and traffic chaos. The Central Square is blighted by construction of a new subway connection. The locals aren't happy about it either...it's been going on for a while apparently. Our internet guide tells us to hop on tram number 5.....we see one and run across the road..Grant jumps on but the doors close on me..and off Grant goes.....oops, Mrs. Gibbs wouldn't be too happy if she were here. Luckily the tram stops a bit further on and I manage to get on board. Panic over.
We then head onto Museum Square about 20 minutes away. We eventually find the Hotel Trianon..check in and throw our gear into the room and head downtown straight away. It's a bit of a culture shock as everyone is heading home after work and it takes a bit of getting used to the bicycles passing by...they've got their own lane and we end up not looking where we're going and keep having to jump out of the way.
We're meant to be meeting up with our old mate Gavin who's here on a work conference. After a few phone calls we finally meet up, in an extremely busy downtown Amsterdam Square. The evening turns out to be quite a crazy one as there's so many people in the bars. Is it like this all the time? The answer is no.....it's just because there's a lot of conferences going on.
An interesting first night. The place is expensive. We get a smash and grab home for some well earned rest. We don't see anyone wearing Clogs.

Gareth Gibbs I’m delighted to read so much of your adventure so far. Keep it coming, it’s most enjoyable. Your dear father! X
Clive Surely there are people wearing clogs, are you positive you’re in Amsterdam?!
Clive Nominee for the parent of the year award strikes again! Almost loses his son after only the second city visited!!!!
