Gibbs Locates
Many apologies for not updating the blog, anyone who's visited Hong Kong will know why. Quite simply, we've been whisked into the madness of this amazing city. We got to our excellent hotel ...once again due to the superb research of Mrs. Gibbs back at Moonbase Alpha, we're staying very centrally in Macdonnell Road, Mid levels, Hong Kong Island. We threw the bags in and at 10.00pm we thought it a good idea to go on a hike.........we walked for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed it, then decided to head to madness central...Wanchai.. at around 12.30am...and yes we found madness. We literally bumped into our pal Stevo...who seemd a bit shocked to see us...and said why hadnt we called or emailed.....long story but basically phones and laptops had lost their charges, then another good friend popped out to see us, Keith Finucane who was in great form. Grant was suffering again from those adrenalin jitters but was soon cheered up as a friend of Stevo's took him under her wing and wanted to know everything about the trip. Grant said later that he never been treated with such respect by people he hadn't met before. He thoroughly enjoyed the attention. As to be expected it turned out to be a bit of a late one and people were so friendly and generous to us.
Sunday we walked all over the north side of the island, showing Grant places Jayne & I used to take him when he was younger, some it he remembered. We've been walking a bit too much and the legs are hurting. We visited Grant's old school Glenealy and told them he was an ex pupil, they made a great fuss and people there remembered him. We were given the royal tour and were treated grandly. The rest of our time here is turning into a bit of a blur, mostly due to the fact that we keep bumping into old friends and they have again have been most welcoming and generous. I will eventually name everyone who have been so good to us .....but you know who you are and we've been awed by the hospitality that has been shown to us. Time is flying by and we need to get our flights sorted. HK will be the end of the trip for us and we will head back to London later next week. We've still got a pile of sights to see and I'll try to make sure the blog is updated and keep everyone in the loop. The folks have returned back from the States and normality will soon beckon, but for the meantime we're still in this absolutely mad place. It hasn't changed.

Ray Peacock Hi Lloyd / Grant, It was a real pleasure to meet you both and chat up a storm on 12/11 in The Smugglers in Stanley. I am enjoying reading your blogs. Great "Father & son"adventure story ! My old man was in the RAF and we saw a few sights in my younger years, but nothing like you two have done. Respect and envy ! Hope we can arrange a "meet" when I repatriate eary next year back to the East Milands ( just outside Loughborough), take a hike in the Brecons or Snowdonia and compare notes of living in Hong Kong over a few pints of Felon Foel, or Brains SA... Leaving HK after 15 years will be a real wrench for me.... Hope you had a safe trip back, and that you weren’t too hungover after our little soiree ! All the best for now Ray EM:- "[email protected]"
Ray Peacock Hi Lloyd / Grant, Following my earlier comments, I have just enjoyed killing an hour or so, reading all your Blogs starting from HK and working backwards ! A great read from front to back, or should that be from back to front ( Just as us men read our newspapers..!.)... You rail experiences in India resonated. In 2002, my ex and I did a rail journey from Agra to Goa - 32.5 hours. I can identify with all your comments in respect of that part of your sojourn, including the time spent in Goa itself. I look forward to reading the book....move over Michael Palin !, (who was actually in HKG when you were here...). Cheers, Ray
