Well, well, well......after leaving the corruption of Brussels, we head south through what once were the fields of Europe's dreadful Great War. It looks bad enough after a warm summer. God knows what they went through.
The northern towns and villages outside of Paris looked similar to our small Welsh hamlets...but upon entering the Paris suburbs...it appears that the devil does indeed make work for idle hands...in this case it's graffiti.....and wecome to all you American visitors, who looked horrified. The best was yet to come.....
Paris du Norde does not have a good reputation......and proof of the pudding after disembarking, was watcing the undercover police arresting a bunch of thieves for stealing other people's property.........'Europe, it's so sophisticated...' I heard one of the American tourists say earlier on...........probably before her purse was stolen.
We hotfoot it down to the RER Subway...not to look like the American tourists, who are watching the pickpocket thieves' arrest in astonishment......
This station is not nice........the French Businessmen wearing suits in front of us are more nervous than we are...as speculators move in offering to help them sort their tickets out...they've only got 20 Euro notes..and the tickets are 3.40 Euros...of course they have no idea what coins are...it's fun for a bit...then one guy moves in on us...when we proudly bring out Euro coins.......this place really is not fun....
We head to the Subway........and it's like something from a Sci-Fi movie...I wouldnt want to do this every day...then again you get used to it I suppose.....I couldnt do it. It's scary...but really everyone is doing what they do...getting home after working. We got lost and eventually found the right platform...
Paris.....it's grubby and in need of a good scrub.
Once again we think we're on track but cant find the hotel...up and down...round the streets....the locals are very helpful..as in not very much......I then ask a bloke running a cafe to help us....he goes overboard....and points in the right direction, we then dump the luggage and head back to his cafe to give the guy some business after helping us.....his name is Bernoir and treats us like kings......superb.
