we managed to get up the Motorway without any major problems and it was a bit of a laugh looking at the M5 which was packed..that would be the GLastonbury mob heading home, so glad we managed to miss that. Bristol airport was also packed and we opted to pay for the Fast Track security treatment,,,,which still took an hour and was an absolute arse pain. Once through, we hit the bar for some well needed anaesthesia. The flight was pleasant enough, we did wonder if the plane would be full of the notorious Stag & Hen mob which are known to frequent the city of Prague, luckily that wasnt the case. The only rowdy,s we saw were thankfully off to terrorise Alicante, Spain.
It was a pleasant two hour flight and the first thing we noticed when we got off the plane was the heat.Europe has been in the grip of a heatwave for the last couple of weeks and so being in the flatlands of Central Europe, the heat is on. We are greeted by our driver as we walk out from customs, he looks like a famous bass player from the mid 1980,s and is a friendly enough bloke but doesnt say a lot. It,s a 30 minute drive through the sprawl into the centre of Prague, it all seems very quiet until we get dropped off and then we,re in tourist ville. Our hotel is right at one end of The KIng CHarles Bridge, it,s a Unesco Heritage Building apparently, but this hasnt stopped the local scrotes from spraying untidy graffiti around the front of it and it also hasnt stopped the building owners from clearing it up, so top marks for lazyitis.
We then enter the Four Star rated Hotel and it,s a massive dissapointment, if you thought the heat was oppressive outside, then turn the cooker k*** up to full blast and be prepared to be roasted inside. There,s no grandeur to reception, three manky red chairs to your left, a long corridor to the desk and a young girl who seems to be completely at home being cooked alive, we mention thatit,s a bit hot, but get no reply. There,s no lift....part of the Unesco Heritage thing apparenly, thank God we,re on the second floor....in we go, it,s very nice, big with a little kitchen area,,,,,,I,ll just turn on the AIrcon and will be tickety boo.......yes, there is no aircon...only one fan, we ask for another one, dont have one comes the couldnt be arsed reply. So, welocme to the sweat locker. We ditch the bags and are get to get out into thirty degree centigrade coolness of outside. As it,s now dark we dont get to see the architecture bu walk over the impressive bridge and look at the many statues along the walkway. We were expecting there to be bars everywhere here, perhaps there are but it seems like Sunday night is everyone,s night off, we walk a lot, perhaps too much as Jayne starts having a stiff leg, so we walk back to the sweatbox, make sure Jayne is comfortable ....which is impossible in this hotel. Grant and myself have another walk over the bridge and find Wenceslas Square, lots of people and outside cafe type seating, we grab a couple of beers but then everyone starts shutting shop. Walking back to hell, we spot the only open bar, typically it,s an Irish bar, we go inside and cant believe that anyone would sit in this heat, seems like no one,s big on aircon here. It will be a sleepless night for me lying next to a fan that sounds like a jet engine.

Gareth Gibbs Oh dear, I thought there might be problems as a/c doesn’t really exist in Prague. Hopefully it will be cooler today and the loveliness of the place will hit in. G x
Rob Lewis If you find yourself at the airport with time to kill there's a lovely old DC3 parked up. You can walk right up to it, and unlike good old Blighty, nothing's been teefed or vandalised. At least it was 8 years ago.
