Our last day in Porto and Portugal and it has been a lovely stay. First up visited one if the famous Port houses, Cockburns. Funnily enough, many of the oldest and most famous are British owned and have been since the 17 and 18th centuries. The grapes are grown in the Duaro valley upstream if Porto which has unique microclimate for in this part of the world. So the story goes anyway but the port does taste good. Followed that up with a river cruise which was nice in the heat of the afternoon since it got the mid 30's thud afternoon.
Almost forgot, last night at dinner dining at the table next to us was the owner and president of the Real Companhia Velha, the oldest port house in Portugal. He and his companions sang happy birthday to Robyn with us and then offered up a glass of wine, which was substantially better(and more expensive) than what we were drinking.
We will leave Portugal with some great memories, not least of which are the friendly people and the great food.
Tomorrow we are visiting Santiago de Compostella, the end if the Camino pilgrim road. In the Middle Ages, the church which purportedly has the last remains of Saint James was the 3rd most important christian site behind Jerusalem and Rome. We are staying at Finisterre, the most western point in Spain. Should be nice.
