Up really early as can of coke that Craig put in the freezer (and forgot to take out) went BANG!
We watched the sun rise from our bed, had breakfast and began the pack-up for our final destination on the Oodnadatta ... Lake Eyre.
Arrived at William Creek at around midday and have decided to wait for the late afternoon sun before venturing out to the lake via the Lake Eyre North track.
The campground had powered sites for us to recharge camera batteries, iPads etc ... nice! Also booked into the William Creek pub for dinner.
Scenic flights started at $950 (2adults 2 kids) for an hour! CRIKEY! We've opted for the cheaper drive to the lake.
Set off at around 2:30 for the 67km trip and an hour later arrived at Lake Eyre. WOW! Spectacular! The lake is immense, stretches on for as far as you can see. Unfortunately the bird life we were expecting wasn't there with the exception of a pelican colony. Because the water gets increasingly saltier with time and evaporation most of the wildlife can't survive.
The trip back along this track seemed to last forever as the corrugations were at times over 20cms deep. Luckily the only damage we sustained was a sheared off driving light mount.
After a shower at the camp-site we ventured to the William Creek pub for dinner. Surprisingly good (but expensive) meal.
Back at the campsite and with the kids in bed, time for a quiet drink and sit under the stars with the hopping mice! It was an early night for Roma! :)
