Gerard's Travels
Today we saw a dog in a wheelchair. It was heartbreaking, inspiring, and so very hilarious that I couldn't even wait to tell it in sync with the day's events! Not that much else really happened today actually, so it almost could be left at that! But really, after last night's efforts there really wasn't gonna be much happening today. Plus it was our last full day here so I was going to make the most of doing nothing before things ramp up again next week. After waking up feeling a little sorry for myself, I spent pretty much the whole rest of the morning laying in bed and catching up with those I miss back home. It was so so nice to have a prolonged catch up with home, and once I finally did get out of bed I felt much more amazing for it - so the morning in bed was something definitely needed, even if I still did miss home a bit! Dad headed off for a walk this morning while Daniel and I were hopelessly stuck to our beds. He wanted to see if he could go inside La Sagrada Familia, so he trudged out to the other side if the city to escape hangover central. We were still there when he returned! He never got to go in, because again the line was massive, even by mid morning! As afternoon approached, Daniel and I were still in bed. I'm really not sure how to expand on that, so today really could be a short blog. Finally by early afternoon I thought enough was enough, and I rolled out of bed and headed for a shower. Dad had already headed up to the pool deck to relax, so I decided it'd be nicer up there then in the hot room. Before I could do it, I had to make our arrangements for tomorrow. Somebody had to be the mother around here. This meant checking into our flights online and arranging all those required documents to be printed at the hotel. After about half an hour of b*****ising around, I was upstairs in the sun! Daniel and I got a feed at the bar before heading upstairs. I had a quick dip in the pool, smothered sunscreen all over me, and sat back on the deck chair to relax the afternoon away; you know the drill. I actually had a really sore **** I'd laid in a deck chair so much this week! Dad had smuggled some of our cans of beer (€4 for a dozen - bargain!) onto the pool deck and was indulging, but there was no way I felt like a beer laying there! Dad eventually called time on his relaxing up there as the evening approached, and headed downstairs to get ready for the night. So too did Daniel a little bit after that as well, and he also headed downstairs to get ready. I had other ideas, and continued to doze and lay and relax up there for another half hour or so after that. And I would've stayed up there longer, but my **** was just too sore laying there for so long so I had to call it as well and head on downstairs. I certainly had taken advantage of that pool this week! Earlier in the day when Dad had to escape hangover central, he wandered down and explored the old bull ring which was just down the road. It had been turned into a shopping centre with heaps of nice restaurants on the top floor. We decided for our last night in Barcelona that this is where we should have dinner! After I'd finished getting ready, we went down to the street and walked towards the old bull ring, about 5 minutes away. It was the first time I'd been out of the hotel all day. And this is where the highlight of this story happens! Along the way, we saw a dog in a wheelchair! It happened so quickly, we looked up and there it was! But I had to get a photo! So Daniel and I pretended we'd dropped something 20 metres further back, and doubled back on ourselves. Then we turned around again and snapped away! I also got it on video! Once that excitement settled, we headed upstairs at the bull ring and found a Spanish restaurant for real, classic seafood paella! We ordered a serving for three, and begrudgingly three beers as well, and enjoyed reflecting on the day's activities. Or at least Dad did, he was the only one to do much today. The paella came out and looked amazing! Except for my old foes prawn and scampi. Take your ****** tiny little bit of meat and **** off. Other than those, it actually tasted amazing too. Actually so did the prawn and scampi, but it just wasn't worth the effort! It was great to taste a real, classic paella, complete in a big share dish! The ones the other day were nice, but couldn't be compared to this! Later, we headed back to the hotel, and back up to the rooftop bar for one final quiet drink! Eek! This time I decided I couldn't go a whole week in Spain without having a mojito, so Daniel and I ordered one, and together with Dad's beer, the three of us just say quietly relaxing, feeling very much lucky to be having such an amazing time in an amazing location. Some people didn't see it this way, with a bloke from Lithuania, who we saw being so rude earlier in the afternoon, preying in on a woman up there. When security was called, they created a massive scene, creating the night's entertainment, which was pretty horrible. Knowing the police had then been called, they left. Daniel and I finished our mojitos, and as Daniel couldn't stand it, had one last beer to wash out the taste, before heading back to the room, an earlyish night after last night, to recover and pack, and I talked to friends at home. Our time on the roof, and almost fully in Spain, had come to an end.
