A traffic jam is common for this part of Vietnam. Everyone jostles for space down a small road, trying to weave around each other and those parked on the side. A larger tour bus blasts its horn and tries to impatiently push through. After a long bus journey we arrived late and the hostel I had reserved and paid the deposit for was now fully booked! They said they had a 14 bed dorm available so we took it. We were unaware that it was in a completely different hostel round the corner. We walked in and we were not impressed...I know we are bound to stay in some dodgy places whilst we are travelling but I was not expecting to be spending our New Years here!
Bobbi and I looked at each other and agreed to find somewhere different for tomorrow evening. With no luck after searching the streets we had to stay but booked the first available bus out of Ho Chi Minh on New Year's Day.
Whilst we were in the city I created our own walking tour and visited the Main square, Notre Dame Cathedral, The War Remanence Museum and the old post office.
New Year's Eve was spent on the roof top of the hostel we originally booked drinking beer (Yes I know..my only option in Vietnam!) seeing the New Years in with lots of other travellers, a lot better then we both expected when we first got to the city!
Happy new year everyone, I hope 2016 is a happy and healthy year for all of you.
