Da Nang in Central Vietnam is one of those backpacking destinations that is unfortunately skipped by so many travellers who find themselves being short on time. Da Nang is only 30 minutes from Hoi An so we decided to make a stop there for a couple of nights.
We arrived into the city at 9pm and decided to go for a casual drink in the bar downstairs from the hostel. The bar named 'Alco hole' for a reason but within 10 minutes the place was taken over by a Vietnamese birthday party where they cleared the tables away to create room for a dance floor. We then had no choice but to join in along with a couple of others when they bought us drinks and pulled us up to dance. This was the craziest most unexpected night of the trip which had us laughing all night!
What we did in Da Nang
Waking up to rain, we didn't let the weather get is down, we hired an 'easy rider' who took us on a tour of the surrounding area. Visiting the Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son or “Five Elements Mountains) a cluster of marble and limestone hills just 7km from the city. The mountains are full of caves, tunnels and Buddhist shrines. For years the hills were mined for their valuable stone, although that has been recently banned. You can climb to the summit of one of the mountains, offering absolutely spectacular views over the entire area.
The second stop was Son Tra Peninsula, where the beautiful views of the city was hidden by the fog.
The last stop was to see the lady Buddha and the pagodas.
