I booked 5days diving with Suba Junkie spending a little extra to stay in their resort on Mabul island to avoid the long boat transfers to and from the island each day. I spent the first couple of days completing my advanced open water course, gaining more experience under guidance practicing buoyancy and navigation techniques, drift diving and a 30m deep dive. This prepared me for diving Sipadan one of the greatest dive sites in the world.

Sipadan barrier reef runs for more than 95km and composed of 15 individual reefs and 11 islands. As you descend into Sipadan's clear waters, the first things that greet you are the sheer walls dropping down into the abyss, the colourful reefs, the green and hawksbill Turtles, too numerous to count, and the dense schools of fusilier, baitfish and anthias. I was lucky enough to see schools of Jacks and Barracuda, the Napoloen Wrasse, White Tip and Grey Reef Sharks, Devil Ray's and the fascinating flamboyant Cuttle Fish. Definitely an experience I will not forget in a hurry!
