The Monkey Goes Travelling
Well hello everyone!
I am now back in Thailand and on the island of Ko Samui. We have come here to go to the full moon party. This is a party that happens every month when its a full moon, surprisingly! But to back track and fill you in on what I have been up to since I last spoke.
Well we left Nha Trang and arrived very tired and hungry. Our first night in Siagon we stayed in due to the fact i could not stray to far away from a toilet, we sat on our balcony watching the world go by and locals fighting! We did a boat tour of the Mekong Delta River. Which was not the best tour I have been on and we only spent 30 mins on the delta itself, the rest of the time we visited village where they tried to sell us things. I know it is a strange thing to say but the next day we really didn't feel like sight seeing. Our saying is " we are all templed out", there are only so many different temples and pagodas you can see in 2 months without them all starting to look the same! so instead we had a wonder around the town. Its a very busy city with lots of big department stores.
From here we started a new country, Cambodia. I love Cambodia and think that it is an amazing place. You definitely need more than 1 week to see everything it has to offer. The people that are still alive in Cambodia all witnessed the impact that the Khmer Rouge had only 30 years ago, so even though it is the countries history its still present day history and its amazing to hear the stories people have about their own experiences of it first hand. The first place we visited in Cambodia was Phnom Pehn. This is where you go to see the killing fields and the s21 museum all about the Pol Pot times. Its was scary visiting these places - there are still people buried near the surfaces that you walk on, so you can see bones and clothes sticking up out of the floor. There was a huge glass temple erected filled with all the skulls they have found. The museum shows all the cells they were put in. That day we also visited a shooting range were we had a go at shooting a M16 rifle. It was very scary that on the menu for this place you could buy a Rocket Launcher for 100 pounds! It was madness being that close to a gun - never want to be that close to gun fire ever again!
From Phnom Pehn we headed to Siem Reap. This place is amazing - it has the "big temple in the jungle" as dad put it, or Angkor Wat to anyone else! Its a huge amount of temples built by the Khmer people between 802 and 1220 AD. We only had a one day pass for the temples but i would recommend anyone going for at least 3 days. Our early start to catch sunrise at the great Angkor Thom meant we had to be up at 4 am and in the temples by 4:30. But it was well worth it. I cant put the place into words you will just have to see for yourself how amazing it is when i put some photos on. Whilst in Siem Reap we gave blood. There is a huge demand for blood in the children's hospital there are so many children are ill or dying, mainly due to the huge poverty problem, that they are so grateful for Westerners that give blood as they know that it might save the life of a child. Plus you get a free t-shirt so it definitely made it worth doing!!!!!! Again another few nights out where too many buckets where drunk. woke up at 5 am on a boat near our hotel covered in mosquito bites, counted 30 on one leg!!!! I must learn that buckets are bad!!!!! Cambodia is definitely a place i will come back to many times, the people and the place is just so amazing.
From Cambodia we set about our 2 day journey to head back onto Thailand to get to the full moon party on Kho Phangan. We arrived back into Thailand on the day of the Kings 60th year celebration. I cant believe how much the people of Thailand love their king. Every where you go there are pictures of him and even when you are in the cinema about to watch a film - like we did, you have to stand and respect him. I cant imagine it catching on in England with the Queen some how! As you probably saw on the news, the images of thousands people who turned up in Bangkok for the celebration, well I was there in the middle of it all! So much so that we missed our bus to the islands! Opps. However it all turned out ok because our travel agent loved us so much he booked us onto a flight for the next day and gave us a free hotel over night. Mr Paul saved us!!!! The flight was delayed for 3 hours but we finally got here and just relaxing on the beach before the madness stats again.
Well I will put on some more pictures on soon - battery dead again on camera, but that's no surprise after taking 1500 pictures so far!!!!!
Hope that everyone is ok.
See you all soon
Love me and monkey!!!!!
