George's World Travels
Sorry guys, Ive been very bad! Am so far behind in postcards!!!
Ill do the remainding cities, prob in less detail though, seems so long ago already! How quickly things change!
So yes Hangzhou...
very beautiful city. One of my favs. If I was gonna live anywhere in China it'd be here. The city is just so clean, very new looking. Quite small. All centred around a big lake in the centre, with a little jetee and small boats crossing it. (I still am not able to put pics up-computer Im on for next few days doesnt have a USB port or CD drive! so got this pic from the website. Its still a lake:) )
There was a cool night market that we visited. Got a few more souvenirs, to add to my mounting pile. We had another bike ride, this one was around the 9 Creeks and 18 Gullies. The theme for the ride was tea. We went to the tea museum, just outside of the city, christ you wouldnt believe there was so much to say about the stuff! Chinese are SERIOUSLY into their tea, puts us english to shame! We also rode past fields of tea plantations, and down a lot of country paths, seeing more of the real China. On our way we passed a sweet park. Had really pretty waterfall. My first on this trip, Im sure by the end of Australia I'll be sick of them, but for now I love them.
We went to a specialised chopstick restaurant, only had chopsticks. Bought a very pretty wooden set. And in the evening we had the BEST meal of our trip. Was in an Italian/ French place (how awful of us! but after chinese after chinese you appreciate Western food so much!) Anyhoo, OH MY GOD! was sooo tasty. Even if I had it in England would have loved it. Basically it was amazingly cheap for the amouont of food we had, which is always a good start. It was a set menu, with loads of courses... soup, salad, appertiser, main, buffet dessert (ie as much as you wanted) and then tea or coffee. Duncan decided he'd seriously abuse the all you can eat desserts and ended up eating 10! Needless to say after Gam Baying (downing) a few beers at a bar we went onto, he wasnt feeling all that perky!
Anyhoo...all the meals were delicious-esp my main salmon with creamy sauce and new potatoes, just like at home! The meals were also just the right size so you didnt feel sick by the end. We also added a few bottles of Pino Grigio and loads of cocktails which did bump the price up quite a bit, but was all so nice!!!!
Like I said we then went onto a bar we we had a few more drinks and Graham was really nice and found me some ice as temporary relief for my mossie bites. Yes I had like 20 over my legs, and some seemed to have an allergic reaction as went massive. Did I tell you about the one that started spurting all this yellow goo out?! Looked like sap from a tree. Not nice at all! I still have a scar from it!
After that we went onto a really cool club. It had a pulsating dance floor!!! On reflection it may have been a gay club as we all were hit on by the same sex. One girl literally lunged to kiss me. Sadly she was quite scary and very big so didnt even that flattered by the experience. The guys were all very popular too, especially Byron who had some great dance moves that all the chinese were copying. Hilarious. We left at about 2am as a Chinese guy was being a bit too forward and while dancing with me tried to pull my top up. They all seemed to be crowding in on our group too, so yeh better to go. Had really good night though. A lotta laughs!!! When I can the pics will go up!
So NOW Shanghai...
