We can see why so many foreigners leave it all behind for a life on the island of Utila off the coast of Honduras. Tropical surroundings, friendly locals and fantastic diving are among the things that make this laid back island so attractive. We were fortunate to be befriended by a couple of extremely friendly folks, Jo & Tony, who took us in and showed us the good life on Utila. The Bay Islands are located on the tip of the second largest reef in the world (the first being the Great Barrier Reef). Underwater we explored the 100+ft long Haliburton Wreck and came face to face with a rather large grouper, a barricuda and a green moray. Overall, the weather was quite nice the entire week, minus the last day, but hey, we did arrive in the middle of the rainy season. Had it not been for our plans to meet Adam´s folks in Costa Rica for Christmas and the mosquitos (whose bites made us look a bit like we had some kind of disease) we may have joined the ranks of the lucky people who call this island home.
PS. Thanks to our buddy George Peterson for recommending this wonderful place!
