Hey all,
I've had a few busy days in Kanchanaburi visiting the 'Bridge over the River Kwae' and the 'Hellfire Pass' plus petting elephants and tigers. Its all go here!!
The museum was incredibly emotional and I've taken loads of pics so that you can read the info and see for yourself. Dad, there's loads there for you to look at as I know you'll be interested so I got photos of all the memorabelia. We also paid our repects at the POW cemetary, which I have to say is kept in spectacular condition. Good thing too!!
I also got to go to the tiger temple and was allowed in with the tigers to pet them. It was fantastic! After this was an elephant ride and I even got onto its neck. I hope I didn't hurt it and I was assured that I wasn't as they were used to heavier!
We finished the day by watching the sun set over the infamous bridge, which is always nice; then back to out floating hut which is even on the river itself!! How impresed was I?!
I'm going up to Pai next via Chang Mai. Should leave tomorrow and then hopefully find a trek I like fopr a few days. Diana won't be coming with me as she'll be going down to the islands to get to the full moon party. Lucky her!!! She's been ace though, lovely northern lass who doesn't stop talking. Have had some great debriefs with her last ing a good 5 hours or so!!
Right, I'll go now as I'm hot and hungry (nothing changes).
Speak soon and take you're time with these photos, I can't explain what horrible conditions these guys were kept in for years. 12800 POWs died making this railway and 90000 Asian workers, they were starved and made to work 18 hours a day. Red Cross sent parcels and these were kept by the Japanese and not passed on. Doctors took beatings to prevent their patients from being forced back to work...horrific!!
Love ya
