The Crazy Adventures of Gemma Jean
Hi everyone,
I have decided to update my journal today as a couple of days ago I realised that it was exactly one year ago today that I made the decision to go travelling.
I have decided to mark this momentous occasion by writing down some thoughts from my other journal, which I write in when I feel inspired. Now, as most of you are aware, I can get quite sentimental and even dramatic on occasions and this will be one of those, so if you're not in the right mood then please stop reading here and come back after an appropriate amount of alcohol...

Let's set the scene;
I'm sitting on the white sand beach at a Corona Extra table with a huge orange juice situated next to me. Mexican music is playing in the background and I am burying my bare feet in the sand. The breeze is blowing pleasantly through my hair as I look out to a troquoise and blue Ocean. I don't have a care in the world and right now the only item on my agenda for today is to continue reading my book 'The Time Traveller's Wife', which is fabulous! It's been such a long time since I've really enjoyed reading and now it's as if the switch has been flicked on am I have an insationable thirst for words.
I'm in Playa right now and have been for about 4 days although its hard to keep count. Playa is most definitly a party town and heaving with Americans...We came here after a couple of nights in Isla. I'll be back there on 11th as I shall take Han and Vicky there before bringing them here for some medicinal therapy!! I can't wait to see Han and hopefully impress her with my crap attempt at Spanish conversation. I've booked a really funky arty room/bar/resturant for us to stay in Playa. I got it cheap as it's quiet season; almost half price with breakfast included,plus I had to undertake the entire conversation in Spanish in order to make a reservation! I have admittedly been patting myself on the back ever since. I have a couple of ideas about where to stay in Isla but I'll probably just scout around quicklyand prop Han and Vicky up at a bar somewhere.
I realised yesterday that on Friday it will be a year exactly since Roland and I broke up and I made my decision to go travelling. How that has flown by! Katie and I will be going out for a couple of drinks tonight to celebrate, and so we should as if it hadn't been for that fateful day, I would not be here now, looking out into the Ocean, basking in sunlight and at the start of a lifechanging adventure! I'm so lucky!
This last year has provided me with experiences that have impacted on the entire course of my life. Time with friends, time at jobs that I wouldn't of had the oppertunity to take. Not many people get the chance to look back in retrospect and see how something that felt so bad and wrong at the time was actually the best decision that could have been made in those circumstances.
My journey so far has taught me a lot, including the invaluable skill of hindsight. I have no doubt that I will continue to learn and all I need to do is to keep my eyes open, my mind alert and make sure I bloody well do everything that I possibly can!!...
