We left Ko Tao and went on pretty much a 24 hr journey via various transportation to arrive in Langkawi, an island off the west coast of Malaysia. What we weren't told was that from 4th-8th Dec there is a massive maritime and aerospace show which only happens every other year so everywhere was full!
Luckily we found a small new guesthouse run by a really friendly English couple. They didn't have any rooms for the full 3 nights but they do occasionally let other English couples stay in their house just next door, and so we did. Had a great time here and it was so nice for somewhere to feel all homely!!
We hung out at the beach for most of the time but we did visit an aquarium and some of the duty free shops (as the whole island is duty free) but the last day was the best when we hired a scooter and went whizzing off (at 30mph) like Harry and Lloyd in 'Dumb and Dumber' round the island to a cable car ride. This was really scary and went up over 700m above sea level but was well worth it when we got to the top, the views were stunning.
Today we left Langkawi with the red arrows flying over our heads and we're now in Penang, another island further south. Again had problems finding accommodation but ended up with quite a decent apartment in a several storey building. We will probably be here 2 nights as there's not loads to do and then onwards to yet another island!
