Krakow is a really beautiful city in the centre, but outside of that the houses start getting quite rundown and turn into big blocks of flats that make it look quite like Manchester. I yet again managed to get lost the first day in the city (I yhink it may be my new method of really exploring a city). I tried all different ways of finding my way back, but my ever increasing circles just ended taking me in ever increasing distances away from where I wanted to be. ...

Day 4 Ah, the unexpected day. I managed to miss the planned overnight train to Krakow because I didn´t have a reservation. Perhaps next time I´ll try to do that more than 20 minutes in advance. Best laid plans of mice and backpackers and all. Well anyway I seem to have struck lucky, finding both an excellent retro bar and a 24 hour internet cafe to take up my time while waiting for an early train. hopefully I´ll be able to catch that one. the d...

Day 3 It appears I'm spending another day in Berlin. The train I'm getting to Krakow is going to be an overnight train and won't leave until later on tonight. I've gotten to know my way around fairly well now.

Day 2 I managed to get to the german history museum and saw a great exhibition on art and propaganda. It had art from Germany, Italy, USA and the Soviet Union and showed just how much they all used art as propaganda for their own agendas leading up to and during the second world war. I also found a great Thai restaurant and had a fantastic thai green curry with tofu.

As soon as I got to Berlin I managed to get lost. I spent four or five hours finding my way back to my youth hostel. I maintain that this is the best way to see a city. When else would you get to see an industrial park or blocks of cheap 70's style flats when visiting a city.
