Next stop: NYC!!
Yaaaayyy!!! Holidays have started!
We're now having a beer at the airport while we wait to board our flight to NYC (connexion in San Fran!), for L&E's wedding! :-)
Although in this part of our weddings' journey there hasn't been rain, drizzle or wind, of course there was a little debacle at the airport.
We were so proud of ourselves for having been able to pack all our stuff in a single suitcase! We wanted to make it easier to carry the fragile stuff: Paul's tux (for L&E's) and suit (for our wedding), my cocktail dress and my wedding dress, plus the extra-expensive goods purchased in the past 3 months, which we had to show at the customs office in order to get our tax back. Anyway. Our pride didn't last long when the lady at United's counter said - "you can have 1 bag of 23kg each, but NOT one of 28kg between the two of you". :(
So there we are doing the embarrassing airport ritual of opening up the suitcase and shuffling stuff around to get those 5kg off. Honestly I've never travelled so light! Paul & I had 14kg each in the one bag! And we're travelling to a black tie wedding in NY, followed by our own wedding and another month (almost) travelling around Europe. They should give us an award for that, not a reprimand! :(
When that was done (5kg off the suitcase and onto our horseback), Katie's check-in was a no-go. Turns out my ESTA (the "visa" to the USA) was lacking my middle name - Caroline. (Reminds me of that song - Sweeeeet Caroline...) Here's Paul & Katie now running to the next travel agency to get the ESTA re-done. 20min + $30 later, we have the papers - not too bad! Back at the check-in counter, it worked this time, let's have a beer!
Aside from a heated business meeting happening next to our table, where these older guys in suits were trying to prove wrong this persistent young Asian lady who fiercely defended a work mate saying 'yes, she is competent!!'; our beers were cold, so we were good. Well, not that good. I couldn't stand listening to the stressful conversation and had to move tables. Then I was covering my ears and humming to stop listening to them. Then Paul saved me with his earphones and an iPod playing our Oz wedding playlist! :-) isn't he a life saver?!
Time to board, suddenly 'this is the last call to flight 870 to San Francisco'!! :D
P.s: yes, we made it to the plane! :-)
