It was about 1.30am when we went down to the platforms, we queued to get some supplies from this little man through a whole in the wall, on the wall there were empty wrappers of all the products you could ask for, or point at in our case, then he passes them out and tots it up on a calculator, it was slim pickings and nearly double the price it should be, we ended up with a twix and bottle of water each. We managed to find our train reasonably easy, it was old and grey, with about 20 carriages, it looked like it would be better suited to transporting building materials rather than people, and there were 100's of people queuing to get on. We couldn't decipher what carriage we where meant to be on, i would have asked one of the people queuing but they all seemed to be having the same problem, so I queued up at the first wagon and handed our tickets to the large scowling lady who was waiting to snatch it with her chubby sausage fingers, she shook her head and pointed down the train, I asked what number we needed, she looked straight through me and snatched the ticket off her next victim, I got my kindle out amongst the chaos and managed to find out how to decipher the ticket, we made our way to the correct wagon and gave our ticket to the young lady collecting them, she started saying something in Russian, so I looked straight through her and walked past, I'm really getting into the Russian way of doing things. Inside the carriage was tight, it was divided into about 5 wood panelled compartments all with 4 beds in them a window, fold out shelf/table and space above the door to store your bags, I know I keep mentioning the heat but inside the cabin was unbearable, just blinking made me work up a sweat, the two Russians we were sharing with we're already in and settled on the bottom beds, there was an old man who looked a bit like captain Birdseye, unfortunately to my disappointment he didn't have a parrot or even fish fingers, speaking of fish fingers he was accompanied by his daughter who was sporting piercings, tattoos and the typical lesbian haircut that seems to be all the rage here, she looked a bit like Pink, actually she looked like she ate pink, but she seemed cheerful, we said hello and exchanged a few words and they both seemed friendly. It took several attempts of us hoisting ourselves up onto the top bunks a bit like I imagined the acrocats would have done until captain Birdseye pointed out a ladder that folded out of the wall to use, on the bed there was a rolled up mattress a pillow and sheets for you to make your bed, I made mine quickly and pretended not to notice Steve struggling with his and getting redder and redder, eventually Captain Birdseye stepped in, motioned for Steve to get down and made it for him, which made us all laugh. I played where's Wally on my kindle for a while then turned out the main light once I realised it was about 3am and everyone was trying to sleep, before I could go to sleep I needed the toilet so i climbed down, clumsily treading on the captains leg and trying to figure out how to open the door, on my way back from the toilet I passed a young girl in the corridor and she smiled at me, as I got to my compartment and was about to close the door Pink came in and I realised that she had been the girl in the corridor. I had to jump up on my bed so she could get to hers and as she passed me she put her hand on my leg and stared into my eyes, I made a sound I'd never made before, a kind of giggle and clearing of the throat at the same time and laid down in bed trying not to laugh. I guess you shouldn't judge a Russian by its haircut.
