A lay in.. I haven't had one of these in ages, it was just so nice to wake up on my own with out an alarm. It was just before 10:00am. I was feeling a bunged up, someone had put the heating on, and it was so bloody hot. I showered and got dressed. I had decided to walk down to the beach at St. Kilda and take a walk around before meeting up with Cian and Rachel for lunch. It was pissing down. I'm so glad that I've got my jumpers and coat! I walked down the beach in the rain, walking along the front, and part way down the pier. Loads of people told me if you come at night, you can see penguins! I'm sure St. Kilda's beach is a great place to come in the summer to get out of the city. It's not the same when it's grey and wet. (It's like UK weather!)
I started to make my way to Cian and Rachels apartment. It's only about a 10 minute walk away from me. I stopped off to get some beers, and found the apartment easily! That's only because Cian emailed me a map! It was in a great location, and the ideal place to be with all the night life of St.Kilda around the corner. We chatted for ages, about life, travels, everything that came to mind. I'd wished I had brought my DVD from the skydive as that would have made us laugh for a while. Lunch was grand, we had chicken in nandos sauce with wraps and salad! We had a couple of beers the afternoon seemed to disappear so quick, we had so much to catch up on. Just before 3, I had to leave as I was going to the AFL game at the Etihad stadium. I said my goodbyes to a couple of really great mates! Well stay in touch for sure!
Walking back to the hostel was quicker as I knew exactly where I was going. However bad move, I had broken the seal before I left... Half way back I had that urgent feeling of needing a number one... I picked up the pace and concentrated where I was going, trying to focus on not pissing my pants! When I had the hostel in sight I started to feel better. But went to the toilet in the hostel bar, saved me climbing loads of stairs. Your going to think I have a badder issue.. I can honestly say I am like a camel. But once the seal is broken, when you need to go, you need to go! Sorry, that's enough about that...
AFL...! I had meet Selina in reception in the hostel at 3 o'clock. We would then get on the tram to the city and watch the game. It was still raining, and I had about 4 layers of clothes on. The first tram we got didn't have a working ticket machine. I can laugh now, Selina slipped on the wet floor in the tram, she was able to hold on to something, very well recovered. So at the next stop we got off and waited for the following tram. There is a massive fine for people without tickets and I'm sure the "ticket machine isn't working" won't be a good enough excuse. Still raining we waited under a shop canopy. The next tram had a working ticket machine and we continued on our journey.
Arriving in the city centre a couple pointed us in the direction of the Etihad Stadium a five minute walk away. I wanted to get into the AFL spirit of things so I picked my team St. Kilda also known as the Saints! This is the district in staying in. Plus their colours are red white and black, which are Crawley Town colours as well. Got in the line to get our tickets and headed into the massive stadium. Before taking our seats grabbing a beer. I'm not going to bang on about the game, but I did really enjoy it. It might have been the 4 beers I'd drank but it was good. My team was winning for most of the game until the last quarter. Then North Melbourne managed to jump 30 points ahead. No way to catch up now. There was a really funny moment when one player got his shirt ripped off by a player on the opposite team. I have been told by a few people I have met that you can't go to an AFL game without having a pie at half time, so I did. Pie and beer at half time, perfect! The final score was St.Kilda 103 - North Melbourne 136 I can't say I knew every rule, but it was a great evening. Just gutted St.Kilda lost. Bad game, bad game! (That's for Andy!)
It was still pissing down when we left, I'd hoped it had finished as the stadium is covered you don't know what the weather is like outside. The mass of people getting soaked as they left the stadium waiting for trains buses and trams. We decided our best bet was to have a beer in a bar before heading back on a later tram. It was a nice pub, looked like something you would find back home. We got to the tram stop and had just missed a tram and would have to wait another 30 minutes. Perfect time for another beer, it would be rude not to have another one. Arriving back at the hostel pretty late, I just crashed out. I got woken up a few times by the snoring and coughing the wild pig was back! I even turn to lay the other way so I'm further away from the germs. I saw the heater had been put back on and I was sweating so bad.. I turned it off, and opened the window. Im able to have a bit of a lay in as I'm not leaving until check-out time tomorrow, flying to CANBERRA the capital of Australia. Whoop whoop. Although people keep telling me there is sod all to do there!
