We got the boat to Phuket early on Friday morning. It was a 3 hour journey, and we slept the whole way. We got a taxi driver to take us from the port to the hotel. We had read about 'The On-On Hotel' on the internet. It was the hotel used in the film 'The Beach' and hasn't changed since they finished filming back in 1995. If you have seen the film your probably thinking that place looks like a s**t hole! Correct, but we stayed there as we have stayed in worse and it was cheap.
We were hot and tired, so we thought a trip to the cinema would be a good idea as the air conditioning would keep us cool, and we could lunch out with some popcorn. It was still only mid day so we walked to the cinema and bought tickets for later. We walked back and had a local noodle lunch in a bargain cafe next door to our hotel. That afternoon Garath slept and I spoke to my old lady on Skype. At about 6:00 we walked to the cinema and decided to get some food near there, we had KFC. We went to the cinema and got popcorn and sweeties and sat in the screening room, our film of choice was called 'SALT'. The air conditioning was bliss for about 10 minutes, but soon my lips went blue and Garath had nipples like peanuts, it was bloody cold. At one point I looked around and we were all tucked into our T-shirts with our teeth chattering. It was a good film with a disappointing ending. We walked back to the hotel and went past 'The Pizza Company' and 'Swenson's Ice Cream Parlour' yum. We would have our last night with Row and Izzy on Sunday so we said we would go back there as a treat.
Saturday morning we hung around at the hotel and did some online banking, blogging, Facebook, etc, etc. In the afternoon we got the bus to Patong, the party town in Phuket. We took enough stuff to spend the night there and left our big bags back in The On-On Hotel. I found us a really nice bargain hotel called Vech. There was a TV and a fridge in the room, but the best bit were the beds they were mega comfy. We were however on the 7th floor which was also the top floor! But this gave us good views.
We got ready and headed out for some food. We found a market with a brilliant selection of foods. Garath Row and Izzy had Pad Thai and I had Fried Chicken, all chased down with frozen lemon and orange drinks which were cooooool. It was scrummy, and we ate it sat on the floor at the end of the market. On the way out of the market me and Row went all piggish and had cupcakes, Mmmmmmmmmm they were scrummy to!
We were in Patong predominantly to see a ping pong show. Apparently you can't come to Thailand and not see one. It was a bit early to see one yet so we got a couple of beers and sat by the fountain outside of the shopping centre. At about 10pm we walked down Th Bang-La road and found a lovely middle aged lady shouting "SEXY SHOWS, PING PONG". So we followed her to a little place down an alley called Erotica. There was a man sat on a stool by the door and he gave us the once over and then nodded, the lady pulled back the red velvet curtain and we went in. The place had white walls, white leather seats, and a white platform in the centre of the room. The platform had 3 poles on either side and a pole at the front. There was a girl dancing at each pole all in white bikinis. The place was full of tourists all keen to see the main show, and out they came one by one. Each of them did a circuit of the stage, each of them producing a different object or animal from their secret hidden places. A 20 meter long ball of string, ping pongs, blow darts, terrapins, small birds and catfish were some of the things we saw. It was definitely an eye opener! But the best part was watching other people's reactions in there. There was even one group of people who looked like a family.
After the show we went to a bar for a few drinks and then on to a club for a bit of a dance. We headed back to the Hotel later and bought some water and midnight munchies from 7-11.
Sunday midday we checked out of the hotel and got the bus back to Phuket town and back to The On-On Hotel. It was our last day with Row and Izzy and we were going to treat ourselves. We went to 'The Pizza Company' and had a pizza each, It took us about 1/2 hour to decide what we wanted and then it took them ages to bring it out, I had almost eaten my napkin by the time it came. We all shared garlic bread and Onion rings, and so we all smelt as bad as one another. Then we went next door to 'Swenson's' and had ice cream sundaes. With our bellies full and almost overflowing we eventually managed to waddle back to the hotel and got a good night's sleep.
Monday morning Row and Izzy got on their minibus to Bangkok. It was emotional saying our goodbyes and waving them off. I had a little tear in my eye and off they went. Then it was just me and Garath again and soon after we got our bus to Trang.
