Its been quite a busy weekend for everybody it seems! Loving all of your messages!
We went wandering around a shopping mall on Saturday, some cool stuff but not as cheap as the little boutique shops in the hostel neighbourhood!
We had some amazing sushi at the mall that was very cheap compared to Yo Sushi in Cabots or some other british places that are similar. We stuffed our faces for about 2 pounds! and it was lush!
We went to the bus station and bought tickets to Suzhou for Sunday, its known here as the Venice of China.
Saturday night we went back to a hot pot restaraunt we had been to earlier in the week, this time we took Yuen-Yuen with us a chinese girl that we have become friends with from the hotel. Having a translator made it much easier this time, and we became a bit more adventurous with our food. The idea with hot pot is to choose a soup or stock which sits on a gas ring in the middle of your table then you choose ingredients and cook it yourself at the table.
We had a chinese fish called a Weaver, some Jews-ear and golden needle which are both Funghi/mushrooms, shrimp dumplings, Corncheese which is sweetcorn in a crispy batter which is flat and you eat it like pizza with salad, some Taiwan fish tofu and some springroll things that are not spring rolls at all they're more rubbery as you boil them instead of fry them.
It all tasted amazing apart from the Jews-ear which is a bit of an aquired taste. Garath ate mushrooms! the jews ear he was not so keen on but the golden needle he actually liked!
Sunday we were up early and off to Suzhou (the Venice of China). The weather was not so good quite foggy and damp. We went to The Humble Administrator's Garden, It was beautifull, lots of little pagodas and waterways with a Bonsai area at one end of the garden. We strolled around the town centre which was a little less pretty and a bit more commercial.
The Bus journey home I listened to my I-Pod whilst Garath an John slept. On the way back into Shanghai we passed a B&Q which was unexpected.
We got back to the hostel and decided to go out for some drinks, so me Garath John and Yuen-Yuen all got a taxi to a bar recomended by one of Yuen-Yuen's friends. It was in a basement and was an underground club with writing all over the walls. We were given markers to write on the walls with but finding a space was quite hard as the club had been scribbled on for about 15 years it seemed looking at the dates.
We ordered tequilas and had a few beers then more tequilas then more beers then more tequilas and we left at about 3AM. We got to bed at about 4:30 and woke up without a hangover which was nice!
We have our train journey to Hong Kong today leaving at 18:40 and should get us there for 12:56 mid-day tomorow.
Hope your all doing well and miss you all so much, theres so much we wish you could share with us! But we hope your enjoying our blog and it gives you a rough idea of our experiences. Should get some photos up soon!
