Quite a busy few days being very touristy. We have been saving the pennies a bit and doing sightseeing of Brisbane which was really nice, apart from the fact the shopping was to die for :( We wandered around along the river and amongst all the skyscrapers etc on the first day and i managed to bump into some girls i did my dive with which was reaally nice as they remembered me. We stayed at a nice little campsite and got by on the public bus! On our second day we went to the southside of the river and went to the gallery of modern art which had some amazing pieces in, we both loved a series of paintings of people that when put together looked like they were passengers on a plane. We then walked around the botanic gardens and had an icecream. We then spent the afternoon at their man made lagoon which was lush!! After some lovely days in brisbane we drove to the gold coast and to the tourist spot of Surfers Paradise. It is in the middle of a huge stretch of beach, ie the gold coast. However the day we were there it was so windy it made sunbathing etc on the beach impossible due to sand storms and me getting annoyed that the sand hurt when it whipped my ears. So we browsed the rest of the area which just meant window shopping. After spending the morning their we went further down the coast to a nicer less touristy place called burleigh heads. Here you got the most amazing view down the coastline and you could see all the high rise buildings of surfers. We made the most of this and sunbathed in piece and quiet with that glorious view for the rest of the avo.
So taht was yesterday, we spent the night at Miami Beach haha! How cool. This included a night walk to the local convenience store as we felt bad for being tired at 8pm on a friday and so it gave us a long walk and something to do. Today we had great intentions to head straight to Byron Bay, but on the way we saw the most fabulous set of beaches, which was actuall the mouth of the river. We stopped the car at Palm Beach and decided to sunbathe on the bit of beach inside the estuary rather on the otherside where it is classed as ocean. Again it was lovely as no tourists only locals and they were all being fit and healthy paddleboarding etc. We felt a bit unhealthy so decided to swim across the bit of water to the otherside which was quite a distance and due to the current was really difficult. After that exertion we treated ourselves to a caramello koala, yum.
So anyway we are now in Byron Bay which is a strange little town, it reminds us of Glastonbury, might be sometyhing to do with all the hippies and people trying to look like they are hippies when actually they arent they are just a bit wierd. But its got a nice atmosphere and our campsite is nice. We have spent the afternoon having a wander round and have bought 4.4litres of wine for $10, bargain. We are now in New South Wales so when we arrived we had to move our watches forward so we lost an hour in the day which was a really wierd feeling.
Tomorrow we are going to beach it and do an explore to the lighthouse. Still having a few probs uploading photos but we are going to try tomorrow
